This was our second tour with Markella, our first being three years ago. In this 3 hour tour Markella was able to combine two very different topics ( at our request), Ancient Greek Mythology and Greece from its inception as a nation to the more modern period. Markella was able to weave these two topics together as we wandered the streets of central Athens. Her knowledge of the topics and her obvious love of her home city really made this another very special time for us. It was like spending time with an old friend and we cannot recommend her highly enough.A second wonderful tour of Athens

I did the mythology tour in Athens with my children (11/13). Costas was very knowledgeable about mythology and the city. He had some great places to visit and I was then able to then navigate the centre of the city. He brought the tour down to the level of the kids and they gained a lot from it. Would highly recommend. Athens is full of tour groups… but how incredibly fortunate we were to have John share his passion, enthusiasm and knowledge with us on his history and mythology tour of Athens! John has a real gift in storytelling and adapting to his audience. He is warm, friendly and engaging and his extensive knowledge and love of his city and its fascinating history was always on display. We were a family group of teenagers, parents and grandparents and John managed to engage each and every one of us. He used quizzes and stories to make the city come alive and had us searching for hidden puzzles and meaning in the architecture around us. Despite the heat (and a bit of jet-lag) affecting my children during the tour, they have since recalled everything they learnt from John and enthusiastically shared their new found knowledge with others. They took it all in and have gained a unique and personal perspective on a beautiful city. I strongly recommend a personal tour with John to appreciate the fascinating history of Athens and to dig deeper into this wonderful city! Thankyou John! This was my family’s first trip to Athens and my boys (6, 9 & 10) wanted to learn about Greek Mythology. We booked a tour with Costas and it was the best decision we could have made! He made some custom changes based on the requests of our group of 6 - everyone got to do something they wanted to do! The boys loved his stories - he was so patient and kind answering all of their many questions. Costas’ stories and tour were also fascinating for the adults! After a 3 hour tour, Costas felt like one of the family… we all hugged goodbye and walked away with beautiful memories. Earlier in the day, we had an awful experience with our tour guide in Acropolis so we didn't know how our experience with Markella will be. However, Markella quickly put us at ease; asked us what we wanted to learn and see in our Athens tour; told wonderful stories that weaved in Greek mythology, culture, socio-political attitudes etc. Even though it was around 95F, Markella had a deep reserve of energy, was fantastic at story telling and kept us engaged. Our group of four had an enjoyable time with John! He was thoughtful enough to start our tour inside due to a pending rainstorm. He shared so much Greek history in a fun and engaging manner, getting us involved with questions. We even stumped him with one. :) We went over our allotted time, but it didn't really matter as we all enjoyed the walk and engaging conversation, including pointing out cafes and coffee shops based on our interests. Costas is the Perfect Guide! Hubby & I enjoyed his Knowledge & storytelling We booked Costas for this tour & the Acropolis/ Museum tour the following day. I am very glad we did! We were all able to get to know each other well. We did a lot of walking from Monastirak square to the outside of the Acropolis. Je is very engaging and A good teacher. We love history of the many places we travel. And we got that & more with Mythological teachings. ** wear good walking shoes** But don't worry it is at a leisurely pace.Awesome

John is the best guide we had during our stay in Athens. We did the Greek Mythology tour together. On the tour he covered the Greek pantheon and the complex relationships between the gods. John is passionate about history and loves to share that enthusiasm with others. We visited the Library of Athens, the university, the academy and Syntagma Square . We discussed the architecture, paintings and symbols on the buildings as well as their histories and functions. During our tour, John answered all our questions about mythology, Greek history, politics and language. John was so engaging!! I have 3 teenagers age 13,15,17 and he kept all 3 interested with his humour and wonderful storytelling! We learned about WW2, the Athens trilogy and Ancient Greek mythology. Stop the shuttle from one museum to the next and join Costas. He adjusted the walking tour to our interests and time availability, and stopped when we needed drinks or photos. Evanthia is an enthusiastic guide; she even helped us forget about the rain as the start of our tour coincided with a thunderstorm. She is very knowledgeable about myths and ancient history of Athens, although we felt that we regularly had to push to get this information out of her (maybe not all guests truly wants to know about mythology?). Moreover (not Evanthia's fault), there was some overlap with the Highlights and Hidden Gems tour we had taken prior, so we ended up having a drink and chatting about the Greek islands for almost an hour (useful information for future trips, though). Evanthia also pointed out a lot of places to purchase souvenirs, eat and drink, which we felt didn't really fit the theme of the tour. So, while we spent an enjoyable time altogether, we would have taken quite a bit more on Greek Mythology on this tour.Some myths and a general intro to Athens
