This is probably one of the coolest things I've experienced. I arrived at the airport and Federico communicated to me exactly where he was waiting for me. After some quick introductions we hopped into his Fiat and headed to the city. He asked me what I was interested in, what I wanted to see and do. I decided I wanted to see something off the beaten track and he obliged. Federico was incredibly knowledgeable about Roman history and politics and full of interesting stories about all of the things we visited. Whizzing around Rome in a car driven by a local (and a Roman!) is something I will never forget. After our tour he dropped me off right at the front door of my hotel. I was so thankful for that, the inner city of Rome is a labyrinth of tiny streets and I'm not sure I would have found my hotel on my own. Before we said goodbye, Federico also gave me insider tips on what to see in Rome and where to eat. I followed every tip he gave me during my stay and I'm glad I did! If you are going to Rome, do not miss your chance to be guided by Federico - not only was he very well informed but he was relaxed, charming, easy to talk to and he speaks excellent English!! My 8yr old and I had a 9 hour layover and decided to do a short tour of Rome. Federico was amazing. He showed us the less known areas to tourists and even recommended places to eat where the locals go. He was very patient with my daughter who had a lot of questions to which he answered in details. Federico collected us from the airport and showed us to his car. He had bought us a couple of bottles of water which was a lovely touch. On the Motorway he asked us what we were here to see and we told him. He said he would spend most of the time away from the main attractions as we were there for four days and would take us round places not normally visited by tourists. (at this point i wont tell you where he took us as it may spoil the surprise. We thoroughly enjoyed it though and we wouldn't have experienced these places without Federico) We were then taken to a local Cafe where Federico bought us a beer we relaxed and he told us all about the area we were in and the History. Next was into the city centre for a drive round the main attractions and a couple of stops for picture opportunities. From start to finish Federico was very informative and learnt so much from him. I cannot recommend Federico enough he was excellent. Just to add if you catch the train from the airport it is around 60 Euros for 2, a Taxi was 90 Euros for us back to the Airport so for the little amount extra it is wise to Hire Federico and get a good feel for Rome and the Culture. I was pretty nervous about using this service, but I decided to go with it because I like the idea behind it. It turned out to be one of the best choices I made on my vacation. We had 4 guided tours in my time in Europe, and Federico was objectively the best tour guide we had (unanimously agreed among the 6 of us who were traveling together). Federico was engaging, energized, and really was able to bring color to the ancient world. He is very knowledgeable, and was able to give a lot of context that I had no idea about (and I spent some time studying the history before the tour!). He was also very funny, often in a very subtle way - casually weaving jokes into his descriptions of areas and events. In what could have been a moment of down time waiting to get onto the arena floor, he filled our map with recommendations (for food and sights) in the area we were staying, and in every destination we had planned in our trip throughout Italy.Fantastic Experience

I highly recommend using Withlocals for the Vatican Museum personalized tour. Federico was able to get us early morning tickets beforehand and saved us hours of waiting time as lines were enormous. Once inside he explained so much on the middle age transition into the renaissance that helped us understand the underlying artworks and their history and meanings. He also gave us information to get free tickets today St. Peter’s evening prayer service (vespers) and we had opportunity to see Pope Francis! He also shared a restaurant recommendation for after the tour which turned out great. My adult son is going to recreate his sandwich back home as it was one of his favorite restaurant meals while we were in Italy. We can highly recommend Federico as a fun, knowledgable and very helpful tour guide. He showed us (including our 20 and 16 year old round children) round the Forum, Palatine Hill and Colosseum, recommending after 3pm when it is a little less crowded. Federico really brought the history alive, with the helpful use of visuals on his iPad and taking us to the best viewing points. He was very knowledgable on the politics, culture and economics of the Roman Empire and could relate it to contemporary global politics which brought a fresh perspective to the ancient history. Wonderful guided tour through the heart of the Forum and Colosseum. Not only informative and interesting, but offered us a glimpse of ancient Rome from the perspective of a contemporary Roman. Full of historical details and discussion. Federico is fun and enjoyable to spend time with. He made it interesting and engaging for our kids (under 10 set) and even helped out with little things - negotiating for a bathroom for our youngest at a cafe, finding a lost SIM card for our daughter's camera in the grass, and much else. What a great experience! Federico provided us with an unforgettable tour. He was very knowledgeable and kept us engaged throughout! Our group of 6 (including my boys, ages 11 and 13, and parents (early 70s) were all equally engaged. We skipped the lines. He provided a unique opportunity to visit the top floor of the colosseum separate from the tourists. Next we visited the forum, where again, he had all sorts of wonderful stories to share. My wife and I signed up for the Explore The Colosseum And Surroundings Tour with Federico from 9:30 to 12:30. The tour encompassed the Arch of Constantine, the Roman Forum, a newly opened section of the Emperor’s Palace and the Colosseum. Federico shared his extensive knowledge not only about the architecture, but about ancient Roman culture and different religions. Afterward I was astounded at how much we had seen in 3 hours. We didn’t wait in a single line. I have no idea how Federico pulled that off. He carried a tablet with him and occasionally referenced material that showed us how something looked back in ancient Roman times. That was especially helpful in the Roman Forum where only a few walls or columns exist today. How I lucked into selecting Federico as our guide is beyond me, but we were so glad I did.
