A very pleasant afternoon with Ana. This particular tour emphasized the local food experience and also some of the relatively less touristy backstreets with more commercial properties with an emphasis on architecture and urban development. Any if from Porto and mixed up the tour with reflections on how the city has changed for her over the last few decades. We would up the tour with a visit to the old Crystal Palace grounds. Here you can look across the river to the port houses and a quite massive urban development rising up behind it. 20 years ago, said Ana, that was pretty much all green space. Ana was the most friendly and caring guide. We went for a Portuguese breakfast at a beautiful place I wouldn’t have found on my own, walked through the old city and she told me everything about its history. She encouraged me to practice my Portuguese language skills and translated for me, when necessary. Ana gave me information on where to eat and experience the Portuguese culture and when we ended the day at an amazing tea house, it felt like I had spent a day with a friend. My husband and I enjoyed a tour of the Romantic areas of Porto with Ana. We have traveled to Porto a few times previously and wanted to see areas off the beaten path. That’s exactly what we did! We explored the old Jewish and Armenian areas, the area near the Crystal Palace, and found hidden gems in the gardens around Casa Tait. Ana fut une formidable guide! Elle a pris le temps de s’adapter à mes demandes, de réduire le temps prévu, de m’expliquer la situation actuelle de Porto, répondre à mes questions et surtout s’adapter à mes centres d’intérêt, toujours avec ouverture d’esprit et parfois même humour! Je la recommande à tout type de voyageurs et de profils car elle est très flexible et une véritable « locale ». Malgré les imprévus de restauration un dimanche d’août, elle a su me ré-orienter vers un très bon resto/bar. C’est une guide pointilleuse et soucieuse du détail. Peut être pour améliorer les futurs services, les tours pourraient proposer une pause « photo » (surtout pour les voyageurs solos qui ne peuvent pas se prendre en photo seuls!), car Ana m’a dit adorer faire des photos et se passionner de photographie. Autre petit détail peut être, qui est celui de ramener le voyageur au premier point de rencontre (je me suis un peu perdue en revenant seule sur mes pas!). Autrement ce fut un service de qualité. Ana is amazing! We had a fantastic time touring the hidden Porto. As you would expect from someone born and raised in Porto (also referred to as tripeiros), she is a wealth of information and knows all the truly local gems. She showed us the area of the Igreja do Carmo, where she grew up, where she studied and where she knows all local people. She showed us local shops and restaurants we never would have noticed. Our Drinks & Bites tour with Ana was so much fun. She took us to three bars (each increasingly off-the-beaten path) and arranged amazing vegetarian food for us at each stop. She also introduced us to three different local drinks and explained each one. Ana was very generous with her time and the tour went well over the allotted 2.5 hours.
