Terrible experience as our guide Agnes did not show up at the meeting point at the designated time from our confirmation. We messaged her with no response and sent an email to With Locals who did respond with a less than sincere standard apology. We were only in Taipei for one night and were to meet her at 5pm for a night tour. We were then left stranded and had to quickly scramble to figure out things on our own. A terrible experience! First we had booked another daytime tour with Daphne and within an hour received a cancellation saying the host was no longer available. From our experience it seems With Locals needs to improve their host scheduling, booking and confirmation processes. I would NOT recommend this platform. I am still waiting on the refund for both the cancelled tour and no show guide tour.Terrible - Guide Agnes No showed For Tour!

Agnes was amazing! Not only did she navigate us through various types of food markets but she tied the food to Taiwan and regional history. She was exceptionally prepared with utensils for each of us and bag full of tricks (napkins, hand sanitizer, etc.). Most important, she tailored her food choices to our tastes. Additionally she redirected the tour based on lines so we could maximize our time. We have been on several food tours and this was by far one of the best. Her generosity and positive spirit made for a perfect day. Her English was exceptional. Time flew by and she provided a ton of recommendations for us to try during the rest of our time in Taiwan. We had a wonderful time with Agnes on our local tasting tour. Where we thought we would only taste food on a local market, turned out to be a tour of some hidden gems in Taipei. After asking us if we’re comfortable with cycling and hiking we went and had a magnificent view on Taipei 101 without the crowds. And we did taste amazing food as well! Agnes was a wonderful guide, who's really enthusiastic about making sure her guests have the best experience possible. She took us to the Scooter Waterfall, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, and through a variety of locations relating to Taiwanese history and culture, as well as a stop for a Taiwanese snack and boba tea. At 5pm the tour started and Agnes took us to a lot of different street food stands and petit restaurants and we got know the history behind. Agnes didn’t only let us taste lots of different flavors but also showed us around the city and told lots about Taiwanese history, culture and daily life. Context: did the tour as a group of 4 (2 couples) visiting Taiwan for the first time. Review: tldr; amazing food tour not only of the night markets but all kinds of local cuisine with a very knowledgeable and super friendly guide (Agnes)! Our group loved the food tour! We were able to try a ton of different foods across multiple night markets and local restaurants. While portions at each stop seemed small, Agnes was always happy to buy more when she saw us really enjoying a dish and we were absolutely stuffed by the end of the tour. We actually felt kinda bad because we could barely eat any of the dessert we bought at our last stop. Agnes herself is an excellent guide that we would highly recommend. She puts a lot of thought and care into the tour and is willing to mix things up to suit the needs of the group. She’s also very friendly and we really enjoyed learning more about Taiwanese culture and history from her! While it’s definitely possible to visit the night markets yourself, we would recommend this tour as a much more entertaining and educational way to do it! Great way to experience the night markets!

We started our 4 day stay in Taipei with Agnes on a 'Highlights and Hidden Gems' tour. Not only was her English excellent, she also connected with us right from the start and provided some really useful background history and cultural insights alongside a mix of local highlights and insights. Agnes has been very accommodating from the get-go. We booked on a Monday and she suggested we have it day earlier as some of the places are closed on Mondays. Due to a problem in the app Agnes wasn't notified of our booking. We called her from the meeting point and she immediately apologized and booked us for the following day. To make it up to us (even if it was not her fault) she extended our tour well beyond the booked time and even offered us a drink and some snacks. She tailored the tour on our interests and shared with us very interesting aspects of the Taiwanese history and culture. We even got to do a bike ride along the river bank. At the end of the tour she recommended some restaurants to taste some very typical taiwanese food and they turned out to be delicious!! My wife and I spent a half a day exploring parts of old Taipei with Agnes. I wish we had booked her for the whole day but alas she was already booked for the rest of the day. Agnes was knowledgeable about the area we were in and answered all of our questions. We organised a four hour walk and cycle tour of the old Datong district of Taipei with Agnes. There were four of us including our two teenage kids and Agnes successfully managed to show us a great balance of historical locations and life in Taipei. We visited an old school including a brief history lesson in the classroom, Japanese market, temples, tea house (HERB BAR) where we sampled some treats and drank tea. We then got on a bike, cycled along the river which was fun before wandering back through the old merchant streets. Great fun and we enjoyed how Agnes shared her knowledge. My 13 yr old son and I had a really enjoyable 2 hour tour of Old Taipei with Agnes. She was very accomodative. We asked to practise Mandarin so she did a mix of Mandarin and English. Perfect. It was our 3rd stay in Taipei but she managed to show us places we would not find on our own and shared with us some interesting insights into Taiwan's history and politics. Definitely worthwhile

Regrettably our guide Agnes had a personal family emergency on the day of our planned Taipei tour so we didn't get to meet her, however she also coordinated with another local guide, June, to save the day and still offer us the inside real deal tour we were expecting. June consulted with us at our meeting point about potentially joining her tour together with another couple given the situation, which worked out perfectly because there is more joy in sharing an experience with others. I have to commend Agnes for even thinking about our needs during an emergency. And June - well - she was just a delight - full of energy and ideas and stories - offering us insider information to make the local tour very special. We saw places we would have never discovered on our own, learned of many cultural traditions and sampled some of the best local delicacies!
