João is an excellent guide. He shared his historical knowledge of the city and the country with us. He gave us his personal insights and understanding of the Jewish heritage in Lisbon. He took us to the modern memorial stone. There isn't much left behind of 300 years of Jewish presence due to the destruction caused by the earthquake. It wiped out more than half the city. He was sensitive to the fact we weren't used to walking the steep hills of this beautiful city. He took us to see some amazing views. Finally he showed us a great place to eat dinner. Given João’s reviews, our expectations were pretty high, and he did not disappoint. João was relaxed and a pleasure to be with. He was eager to share his deep knowledge of Lisbon’s history and to also give us a sense of her as a modern, living city. We especially enjoyed his tour of the Mouraria which we likely would not have otherwise seen. My husband and I were traveling through Portugal ending our trip in Lisbon. We decided to take a tour of the city to learn more about it. We looked at several other tour companies and tour guides and chose to go with João, and we felt like we hit the jackpot the moment João began our tour! João was not only very knowledgeable about the city of Lisbon in general but also about the history of Portugal and Lisbon as it portrayed to us and our questions and interests. He led us through lovely neighborhoods, leading up to beautiful vistas, overlooking the city, explaining to us about the different governments and policies that have shaped Portugal to become what it is today. Ricardo led us on a jewish walking tour of Lisbon...while there is not that much to see, he was knowledgeable, warm and his english is great. He even picked us up at our hotel and drove us to the first stop, which was very helpful as my husband is not a great walker. And then he drove us back to our hotel...again very helpful. I would hire Ricardo again. He was a delight to be with and taught us a lot about Lisbon.Ricardo went above and beyond!

Peter was a delightful guide through the areas that were previously Jewish areas. He was extremely knowledgeable and brought pictures to help illustrate what he was explaining. I don’t usually rate unless the tour was exceptional. We loved spending our morning with João. We saw places we never would have found ourselves, heard great stories about history, both remote and recent. Marta was very knowledgably about Lisbon and the history of her country. We met her on the second day of our arrival, and her introductory tour made the rest of our experience in Lisboa well-spent. First off, I have to say that Inêz was available within minutes as our original tour guide canceled unexpectedly. So thank you once again for filling in on such short notice. We walked through amazing neighborhoods, heard about the amazing history of Lisboa, tried Pastéis de Belém once again, and enjoyed her pointing out so many little details of structures, monuments, and the history of the city and people. She was able to answer all our curious questions and you could see that she was happy to share her favorite city she calls home with us for a few hours. She even had pointers for some of the cities that were on our itinerary next. João was assigned to us last minute as the guide we picked fell ill. He was immediately responsive to my messages and it was easy to find him at the meeting point. He gave us a fantastic overview of the city and some history as well. We had a small tasting included in our tour and he took us to an amazing place to try the Pastéis de Nata along with the best espresso in Lisbon! My friend and I had a fabulous and informative 5 hour tour with Inês. She came earlier than scheduled to our hotel and then began a journey of information and fun. We arranged for an afternoon walking tour of Lisbon and were so lucky to have Joao as our guide! It was a great tour as he was able to point out some areas where he had spent time and shared with us his favourite places. All the while, he was able to teach us some of the history of the city and the country. Joao was extremely helpful by providing suggestions for places to discover in other areas of the city, which our 25 year old daughter and boyfriend appreciated so much!!! I normally don't write reviews. Not that I don't have a certain feeling one way or another, but because I don't want to lead someone one way and then they don't find what's best for them. There are many great Tour guides offered on this site. All with great perspectives reasons why to choose them. For me, I chose João because he was a native of Lisbon and also because he seemed like he had something to say about his city and community. It was that authenticity that made me want to see and hear. Our arrival was delayed an hour, but João was accommodating and understanding. He gave us a great overview of the different neighborhoods of Lisbon and their nuances and really made it seem less intimidating to tackle. He was super friendly and showed genuine interest in us as guests in his city. After the tour he asked if we would like any specific recommendations on food, sightseeing options and sent us a curated short list of options that we found really useful. He even checked the next day to see how our time in Lisbon was going. It was honestly the best interaction on our entire 2 week visit to Portugal.
