Reviews from guests
Not only was Mary Sol was extremely knowledgeable and informative, she was compassionate and caring. We can't thank her enough for the way she went out of her way for us. 10 all the way.
We were extremely disappointed in Mary Sol’s food tour provided to my
extended family of 14. We spent a lot of money for the tour (over USD 1000
– very measurable investment), and certainly did not get the value-for-money
that would be the minimal of a good food tour.
We have traveled to many countries and have done many, many food tours.
This was nothing like any of those.
There is quite a disconnect between what we experienced and the other
previously posted reviews. But it wasn’t in one area, it was across all
aspects: guide-engagement, food tastings, cultural immersion and
value-for-money
We look for a tour that has…
(A) Good Guide: Mary was a nice and friendly person, but minimally
engaging for the group on culture and what food was shared. Maybe she’s
used to smaller groups, but she did take the booking.
(B) Good Food: Exactly what we had: some bites of cheese (unexplained,
other than one was “smokey” and one was not), shared bowls of chowder
(actually very good), shared order of fish & chips (7 standard fare orders
for 14 people), small cup of ice cream each (tourist-area shop; but positive
points for vendor there who was very engaging), an apple pie slice each
(unexplained), and a pint of beer each (some had other drinks because not
beer drinkers or they were just kids).
(C) Cultural Immersion: We didn’t see, hear from or have discussion on any
local vendors, chefs, owners. There was little to no shared connection to
Irish tradition or extra layers like stories or history to appreciate. I
eventually started asking about her native Venezuela to at least gain
something about something food-related for my family.
(D) Value For Money: In the end, when I spend between €800-€900 on my
family (over USD 1000), I should feel very good about the return in
services. We did not.
The next day, I explained our disappointment to Mary via the Withlocals
site. She was very polite and willing to take feedback. I had hoped she
would have offered a partial refund, but she did not. I was not going to
ask for it. She did offer a free history-focused walking tour of Cork,
which was nice offer, but our tour of Ireland had us already moving on
elsewhere. Working with four generations and several older people who had a
walking-range of <1 mile, required some creativity that she may not have
normally had to do. But she took the booking with full knowledge of the
guests and took it at the same price point as advertised.
I cannot recommend this tour to others.
Disappointing Tour
This tour was awesome! Mary was great and we really liked our tour in cork. In addition to the delicious beer, Mary gave us some interesting historical information along the way. She was also really great at choosing bars that all had a different vibe. Maybe a little pricy but it was great!Great!
It was a nice walk around Cork and Brenda was pleasant but presented us with very little information along the way. She seems quiet and shy; not the outgoing personality you typically see in a tour guide. We asked lots of questions but Brenda wasn’t able to answer even the most basic (population, architecture, landmarks) without consulting her phone and/or telling us, “I don’t really know.” It would have been 100 percent better if she had been able to share the history, customs and anecdotes of Cork as we were walking. With a map, we could have taken the same tour without a guide. That said, we did have an enjoyable pub stop with Brenda along the wayLots of Walking But No Talking
Our party of 5 enjoyed our 10 Tastings of Cork tour with Mary Sol. She responded quickly to our communications. She was very knowledgable of the area and flexible with our group. We were able to try several delicious local restaurants and she provided us with the a lot of information on the unique history of the city. The portions on this tour were very large, we could not finish everything. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area. Lovely afternoon in Cork
My clients had a great time with Mary Sol. She was very enthusiastic and could them a lot about the city and the Irish life.Amazing time in Cork

Brenda was attentive, ensuring that everything went smoothly, which made all the difference in making the most of each stop. Additionally, we had enough time to explore and take photos.
