Chandra provided my wife, Gill, and our friends Andy and Kaye, with a fantastic start to our holiday in India. Chandra was charming. In the 3 hours we had, we visited so many places in Mumbai. I learned how to use the local trains, saw incredible architecture, roamed the streets of touching neighbourhoods and learned many interesting stories and details. We spent the day with Shrikanth and it was a very special experience of Mumbai but also in connecting with Shrikanth. Our day together was very personalized based on our interests and our request for Shrikanth to show us his hidden Mumbai, though we had a list of tourist attractions from the internet, we only actually saw one of them- The Gate of India/Taj Hotel. This was perfect because Shrikanth chose to expose us to unique, non-tourist attractions and experiences. We walked neighborhoods of Colonial "mansions", we rode the local train - hanging out the doorways as we trundled through the city, we visited the largest and oldest outdoor laundry in India, the Ghandi House museum - fascinating, the flagship store of the top haute couture fashion label in India - the Christian Church that marks the Zero distances for all of India mileage markers, an local Indian brew pub - it was very hot out!, a very old and famous ice cream stand, a walk along the Art Deco architecture of Marine Drive.... and so much more. Shrikanth, is a street photographer so we were shown the fascinating, raw and gritty, images of the real Mumbai through his lens. Shrikanth is knowledgeable and fun to be with. We liked Juliana. She met us promptly at the hotel and directed our driver. We arrived at a restaurant and tried some delicious Pani puri. Following that we entered a Maharashtran restaurant where she introduced us to a number of local dishes. We then went onto a famous local kebab place, which was the only true street food vendor we visited. Unfortunately, they did not accept card payment so my wife and I paid in cash ourselves. And then, that was it. End of “street food tour”. We dropped Juliana off at a mainline train station and headed home. All in, this was far from good value. We ate from only one street vendor. Juliana herself is knowledgeable and pleasant, but on this occasion, failed to deliver the experience. We had a much better experience when we visited Juhu beach and tried the street food vendors ourselves. an okay experience, but poor value

We had a really enjoyable and informative time on our tour with Srikanth. Beforehand we were somewhat apprehensive about taking a slum tour, but Srikanth soon put us at ease and we never felt uncomfortable, imposing or unsafe at any time, maintaining a tone of respect and dignity for the residents at all times. He took great time to explain the many fascinating aspects of daily life in the slums, all the amazing commercial activities in a never to be forgotten experience. We also loved gifting the pens and pencils (that we brought with us) at the school to the young children. As an added bonus, Srikanth is a professional photographer and he took so many great photos that he shared with us. Good to see another bustling part of Mumbai and market that would be worth returning to (right near Dadar station). Many sweet with a few savory tastings of ‘grab and go’ foods. Various types of pancakes. Pretty tummy friendly I’d say. Juliana is very knowledgeable about the foods. We found it all rather filling and couldn’t even manage one portion between 2 of us. I did. Some foods only found in Mumbai.

We had the most amazing food tour with Gautam! From gosa to lassi and everything in between! Gautam met us close to our hotel & after our first gastronomic treat we took a local train (what an experience - we would never have done it ourselves!). We didn’t see a single westerner for the whole of our tour, which took us through the flower market, past the pigeon house, down alleys, across streets, with so much to look at and taste. We loved every minute & every mouthful!What an amazing day!

We went to local eateries which I would never have found by myself…the lassi was particularly good in that it was very thick and eaten with a spoon. The vegetarian Bombay burger was also very good, as well as other delicious morsels..In fact I couldn’t eat any more. Purvi is really nice, friendly and open to explain any doubts you have! We did this tour on our first day in Mumbai and walking the landmarks with her was a great introduction to the city, its history and even its flavours. Purvi also showed us an arts festival that is not usually part of the tour but it was on during that week. If it was not with her we would have missed it.
