Garen was a great guide for us. Our interests were both on historical insights and the cuisine of Taiwan. Garen shared the historical evolution of Taiwan thru the lens of the ancient Temple rituals. She explained the economic evolution up thru today as seen in the Market & Factory changes as different occupants ruled the island. We loved walking through the old town food markets and seeing the generational families at work in the markets. Garen speaks exceptionally clear American English. We booked the Pingxi, Shifen & Jiufen Day Trip experience with Nicolas. We saw some beautiful spots on the tour and painted our own lantern, Nicolas took us to a great spot for lunch which must have beautiful views when it is not raining. Due to the wheater we wanted to change the plan so Nicolas suggested a tea tasting at his favourite teashop which was great and a very unique experience. Driving with Nicolas was very safe and conversation is easy. We can definitely recommend this tour, thank you Nicolas!Great day despite the rain

From the moment we met, Nicolas impressed us with his deep knowledge of Taiwanese history and culture, which he shared with humour, insight, and genuine passion. Garen provides an amazing experience with native food tastings as well as in depth historical background. She speaks fluent English as well as Chinese. My husband speaks Mandarin/cantonese while I require English so Garen switched easily between languages. During the tour, we can see her love of native foods and warm relationships with local vendors. Some of the tips that she teaches us are not found in any guidebook. We booked the food tour with Garen for our group with 3 adults and 5 kids (ages 9 down to an infant). Garen did a great job interacting with the kids and keeping them interested as well. We enjoyed the food choices, and the route was well planned (starting at a MRT stop and ending only a couple of blocks from the same stop for convenience). All of this was extra impressive because we ended up with pouring rain on a good bit of the tour, but Garen did well despite that.Fantastic host with our kids

We took the street food tour with Garen and couldn't have asked for a better experience. It was a great experience! We did the street food morning market and started with a breakfast soy milk and a lot of history and political facts. Further on we really had a loooot of food! We liked nearly everything and it was so interesting to try different stuff and get to know how to even order in a taiwanese restaurant. Later we also saw a temple and Garen's Tour ended in a really nice district. We wiuld definitely recommend it!Garen knows a lot about Taiwan!

Following instructions from Daphne, we met at our rendezvous after a short trip on the MRT. We simply bought a day pass at the booth and used it during our tour. We had a thorough and informative talk about the dictator Chiang Kai-shek while walking through the park. We visited the old town and stopped for a beer near the river before continuing our tour of the Lungshan Temple and ending our tour. Daphne was very knowledgeable, easy to understand and very patient when waiting for us to inspect local crafts and stalls. We would highly recommend her as a guide.Taiwan (not on our own)

Eva was a charm and felt like a part of our family within minutes! She took us to 100 years old family restaurants to try local cuisine far away from the touristic food markets, places that we would never have found ourselves. We’ve never hired a guide before, but I decided to give it a go for our short 4-days in Taipei. Turns out hiring Garen was a brilliant idea and has inspired me to do the same whenever we visit a new country! On our first morning in Taipei, Garen met us for a breakfast tour (her recommendation). With an in depth knowledge of Taipei history, and her kind demeanor, Garen spent three hours with us visiting various food stops we never would have thought of, trying foods that were unique and impactful to everyday Taipei life, with a rich history of each dish that helped us connect with the culture. I think the various soy milk tastings were high up in our rankings, but the fishballs were awesome too. We were so impressed with Garen, we hired her for another 4-hour tour on our last full day in Taipei. This time we covered tea, an historic city street, and the famous Nangxia night market. What an experience! Garen started with taking us to a multigenerational tea shop for an intimate private tea tasting with the owner of the shop and plantation. What an incredible experience to learn the history and taste the quality difference in commercial vs family teas. This was a special experience. Next was Dihua Street, with its amazing history and architecture only someone like Garen could walk us through. We tried various foods as we perused, based on Garen’s recommendations. They were spot on. All of it was awesome. Last was the Nangxia night market. One of the many reasons to hire Garen is that she knows which stalls make good food and why. Like a food Jedi she passed over various stalls and shared why, helping us identify which were the right ones. And she certainly was not wrong. The food she hand selected was amazing. She’d even wait in line and communicate with the vendor on our behalf to ensure success! While we’d consider ourselves food adventurous, I’d say each tasting well within any traveler’s range. Hire Garen if you want a local’s take with some history and a hand-curated list of food vendors sure to deliver the quality you’d expect from someone experienced in Taipei life like Garen. Our experience with Garen made me realize even back home I do not have the kind of grasp on food and its integration in culture as Garen. She brought an element to food that only someone deeply engrained her culture could - highly curated with love and passion. This was not simply an eat here not there kind of tour. This is a fabulous tour of Taipei. Eva, our tour guide, was simply amazing. She whisked us around the city on a very busy Lunan New Year. We not only saw all the sights but Eva gave us interesting historical tidbits. She took us on the metro/subway to move around and treated us to a bubble tea which originated in Taiwan. Eva is bubbly, smart and sweet. She is well travelled so she gets what the average travelled wants in a tour. She wasn't watching her watch she ensured we saw everything we wanted to see.
