Gulay led us on a thorough kickstart tour of Tokyo. We met at the Meiji Shrine and had a great intro to the history of Japan. Learned of Shinto and Buddhist customs. Walked to Harajuku and got snacks, shopped, and dropped in on an otter cafe experience which was great. Took the metro for one stop and walked through Shibuya, experiencing the crossing and Hachiko statue. Gulay helped acquaint us with the metro and JR lines, and gave us ideas for other sights to see in the upcoming days. Highly recommend!Great intro to Tokyo

We had asked to see the non touristy side of the city as complete Japan novices and Carlos delivered. It was fascinating to hear his take on Japanese every day life and culture as a long term resident. We walked and talked and felt at the end we knew a lot more about the history of Tokyo and also about the way of life of the Japanese people. She also goes out of her way to teach you how to navigate Tokyo physically and culturally. She taught us how to use the public transportation system flawlessly and explained proper etiquette. With limited time in Tokyo we booked a 5 hour tour, she customized it perfectly to our tastes and interests. At the end of the tour she took time to discuss places and restaurants she thought we would enjoy exploring on our own, sent us links and gave us directions. She was extremely flexible during our day together and even took us on several short power shopping detours. She knows the best photo spots and took lots of pictures of us along the way. This full day tour gave us very interesting glimpses of today modern Tokyo. However, we started with a visit to a Taoist shrine. Then in total contrast to that we visited a very hip fashion street. It was busy, hectic and colourful. From there we went on to a famous crossing their thousands of people passes every minute and had a monument of a very faithful famous dog. From there we took the train to an island with large new buildings. This was fascinating, not only for the architecture of the buildings on the islands, including the Fuji broadcasting building, but as well for the view of the skyline of central part of Tokyo. We really liked our guide Alessandra who really knew her city and still had a outside perspective since she had moved here from Brazil for a little less than ten years. We had such a lovely time with Gulay. She is friendly, easy to talk to, great with kids and knows her stuff! We had ideas about what she wanted to see but she made some great suggestions for an even better day than I had in mind. She suggested things that would be more fun for the kids and kept us off the subway system as much as possible to maximize our time with her and actually seeing and doing things. This trip to Tokyo was a high school graduation gift from my best friend and me to our teenage boys who have always been obsessed with everything Japanese. Gulay was an absolute gem as our tour guide in Tokyo! Her expertise and warm personality turned our visit into an unforgettable adventure. Ai set up a culinary and cultural experience that was well beyond what I expected. We tried a wide variety of food at three different restaurants in an area of Tokyo that would be difficult for a tourist to figure out in their own.
