Zurich and Bern Unveiled: A Day Exploring Two Capitals in Zürich - d4321a7ac949c4b5a7284a4f6063a199

Zu Riech" - means too rich.

"Züri" is the name given to one of the most expensive city in the world by its residents.

But does Zurich really belong to the people who live there, or are the true owners located on Paradeplatz, the largest money market in Switzerland?

After walking through the Old Town and seeing the main sights - we will take the train to Bern.

The old town of Bern is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Legend says that Duke Berchthold of Zahringen named the city after the first animal he killed during a hunting expedition: it was a Bear!

Walking tour through old city where you will enjoy a medieval air of the city with its Renaissance fountains, narrow streets and historic towers.

This is the plan

Check out the plan below to see what you'll get up to with your local host. Feel free to personalize this offer with Iuliia .

  1. Meeting point

Meet at Zurich HB - Zürich to start your journey

  2. Itinerary

This is what our experience could look like, but it’s not set in stone! Once you book, you can chat directly with your host to make small tweaks to suit your preferences.

  3. The biggest railway station in Switzerland

We will meet at the country's largest train station under the sculpture of the guardian angel and immediately begin to explore the city.
  4. Alfred Escher Fountain

This man had a fix-it idea: railroads. If you had to spend 4 days traveling from Zurich to Bern, where he worked in parliament, you too would make sure that by the end of the 19th century Switzerland had the best network of railways in Europe.
  5. Lindenhof

is the scene of numerous historical events. In the 4th century a Roman fort stood on Lindenhof – and in the 9th century the grandson of Charlemagne built a regal palace as place of residence on the very same site.
  6. St. Peter's Church

The clock on the tower is the largest in Europe and the dial has a diameter of 8.7 metres!
  7. Bahnhofstrasse

The shopping heart of the city of Zurich.
  8. Paradeplatz

One of the most expensive pieces of real estate in Switzerland.
  9. Fraumünster Church

Many visitors are attracted by the five stained glass windows prepared by Marc Chagal.
  10. Kronenhalle

    - is one of Switzerland’s most iconic restaurants, the place where the Rolling Stones dined after their last concert in Zurich in 2017. As well as Coco Chanel, James Joyce, Richard Strauss, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Chagall, Federico Fellini, Tilda Swinton and many others.
  11. Grossmünster Church

    - symbol of the city and Zürich's religious heart and soul.
  12. Niederdorf

or Dörfli – the “little village”. One of the last places in town where you can still find real locals.
  13. Cabaret Voltaire

The Cabaret Voltaire is the birthplace of the world-famous Dada movement, which started in Zurich in 1916.
  14. Parliament Building, Bern

Parliament Building it is an outstanding symbol of politics in Switzerland.
  15. Käfigturm

Ferdinand Hodler, one of the most famous Swiss artists of the 19th century, is said to have been born in Käfigturm.
  16. Clock Tower - Zytglogge

Every hour, in front of the Clock Tower you can see groups of people who have come to admire the medieval show: mechanical figures including a parade of bears, a jester, a golden rooster and the god of time Chronos - we can't miss it !
  17. Matte

The Matte neighborhood, located right on the riverbank, has long been a center for a wide variety of businesses.
  18. Untertorbrücke

Bern has 17 bridges span the Aare river (not including railway and highway bridges)! The oldest of these, and one of the oldest bridges in Switzerland, is the Untertorbrücke was completed in 1487.
  19. Bern’s Minster

In the 15th century, Bern was the largest city state north of the Alps – it had a lot of influence and became an important political power. Soon, the people wanted an adequate church, and it’s not surprising that the city of Bern commissioned the Minster. The build began in 1421.
  20. Kindlifresserbrunnen

There are different theories as to the meaning of this fountain, the most plausible one being that the fountain was built to have an educational effect and that the monster was meant to scare little children into behaving.

We contacted Lullia early on and told her the kind of tour we wanted. A mix of history, where to go, mountain hiking, lake cruise, etc. She got back with us quickly and proposed some activities, we responded with what sounded good and left it up to her to organize. We started early in the day so we could fit everything in. When we finally met she was very relaxed but diligent on how we went thru the day. She recommended places to visit mixed in with in depth history about how Luzern came to be and evolved. We had a relaxing hike on top of Rigi, ate lunch on top at a mountain cheese maker, wandered around mountain paths, cruised the lake, strolled thru the city. Never rushed but very pleasent. It was a long day but exactly what we wanted. Probably the best guide we have used in all of Europe. Luzern how you like it!

Lulia was a last minute substitution because we changed our timing due to a rain forecast. What a treat! She has a wonderful personality, and we laughed a lot as we walked around. Yet she is also very knowledgable and well traveled herself-so we also learned a lot, We call this kind of tour a "lay of the land" tour, to acquaint us with the city where we have just arrived and would spend a few days. It was perfect.Perfect

luliia is an amazing guide. Having lived in Ukraine, Italy, and now Switzerland, she has wonderful perspective on the history and culture of Europe. Her personality is incredibly upbeat. We had a lot of fun walking around Lucerne with her. Because of her nationality and language skills, she gives lots of tours for Eastern Europeans. However, her English language skills were very good. Iuliia also gave us lots of ideas about other hikes and day trips to take around LucerneAll you need to know about Lucerne

More about me

I learned to read at the age of five and quickly fell in love with fairy tales.

For 11 years, I studied the cello at the same school Oistrakh graduated from in Ukraine.

My favorite subject in school was history, my true passion. I dreamed of becoming an archaeologist, but I graduated from the acting faculty and worked as an actress in the theater.

In 2008, I moved to Venice and gained experience in travel companies hosting tourists throughout Italy, France, and Switzerland. So, even before I moved to Lucerne, I knew Switzerland very well!

In 2015, I received my guide license in Venice.

In 2020, I moved to Switzerland, which is now my home. Here, I have my family and continue to work as a guide.

I promise not to overwhelm you with too many dates and names.

See you soon!
