Travel like a local to Zagreb

Not too big, nor too small, Zagreb is just the perfect sized city to match all. Its inviting Easy paste life style and friendly hosts will make you feel like home. Upper town narrow streets and numerous staircases, legends of medieval walls and tower, mysterious paintings, invisible bridges, Or Lower town soaked in the famous Green horseshoe.

  • Where do locals hang out in Zagreb?

    Locals are fully devoted to their neighbourhoods. They also are the true creatures of habit when it comes to going out for a coffee. If you happen to be staying in any of numerous Zagreb’s neighbourhoods , you will see what I mean. Sava river divides the city in two equal parts. New Zagreb is the whole area on the right bank of a river. Here you can expect large parks, lake Bundek and peaceful residential atmosphere. The other shore is a bit busier but still you can find a cosy neighbourhood nearby lake Jarun (the big one), Maksimir forest, slopes of Medvednica hill (hiking and skiing area). Still, the city centre is where you shall find most museums, restaurants and other tourist attractions. Luckily, there’s hardly any place where Zagreb blue tram wont get you soon.

For some unique things you will need to pay the ticket- such a s the unique Museum of the broken relationships. And for some you just need to be on time. Grič cannon fires once only. So be there at high noon.

  • What to explore in Zagreb at night?

    Mostly when locals say they are going out, its the city centre they are thinking of. Either you chose the famous winding streets called Tkalčićeva (its so much easier to pronounce it after a few beers) or Radićeva you cannot go wrong. You might also try some of the bars in Ilica street (the longest one), Bogovićeva street, Flower Square or Theatre Square. Feel free to take a peek into any of the side alleys connecting those streets. Chances are that’s where you might find the best parties.

  • How to get from airport and railway station to the city center of Zagreb

    You can get to Zagreb by plane train, car or a bus, While all the other ways of transportation will get you to the hart of the city , if you fly to Zagreb, you can catch either the aircoach which leaves every half hour from he airport or a taxi. In this case its most recommending to take the Bolt or an Uber. Catching a tram or a bus in Zagreb is quite easy. All of them are marked by numbers and final destination is usually marked somewhere on the vehicle. The tickets can be purchased at the drivers or a the kiosks (newspaper stands) if you wanna get it a bit cheaper. Funicular tickets can only be purchased in cash on the spot.

    It all starts in January with the traditional Snow Queen Trophy- that’s how we open every ski season here in Zagreb- In April we are hosting again traditional WRC Croatia Rally. Every summer is reserved for the famous summer festival and street festival Cest is the best usually in September. Music festivals are also the place to be lie IN music Zagreb festival. The peak season though every winter is Zagreb’s Christmas market. Three times Europe’s winner! If you don’t mind cold weather, make sure to be here in December.

  • What to see in Zagreb in 1 day

    If you are only here passing by and have no more than one day, I would recommend staying in the city centre. Here you can enjoy the local vibe, have a stroll through the Upper and Lower town. Make sure not to miss the local food market Dolac (in the morning) and the cannon fore at noon. Tunnel is also one of the must see attractions just like the funicular, Stone gate and the mysterious painting, flower market, local cemetery (you will need a local transportation for that). Also, make sure to visit the parks that stretch down in the Lower town. Local traditional restaurants can be found both in Upper and Lower town. Don’t worry about cafes, you cannot make the wrong choice. Coffee here is a number one ritual in the day.

What to see in Zagreb in 2 days

If you decide to prolong your stay, and most people do, try to get outside od the city centre. If you are depending on the public transportation, no problem, it will still get you places. If you a a nature lover then Medvednica mountain is a must (hike or cable car- it's up to you). If it is summer , take a tram that goes down to the lake (renting a bike is also a good idea). Within half hour drive/ride form the Main square you can easily reach all these places: Lake Jarun, Lake Bundek, Ne Zagreb, Maksimir forest, ZOO garden, Mountain cable car....
