Best Activities in Prague

Whether you like soaking up historical ambience by visiting ancient castles and locations or doing something more off-beat — you’ll find plenty of activities in Prague to keep you busy! Here are a few ideas to get you thinking about your Prague trip.

  • Take to the Vltava

There’s a majestic river flowing through the city, so it makes sense to do something on it while you’re there. On Slovansky Island you can rent a boat of your choosing. Prices vary depending on the size of the boat (they can hold anywhere from 2-6 people) and how long you want, but like most things in Prague it’s reasonably priced.

Paddle boats are however a super way for a couple to explore the river and Prague itself. Passing by Prague Castle provides one of the most romantic views, but a paddle boat isn’t just for lovers — it’s one of the great activities in Prague for families to relax, away from the hustle of the Old Town and enjoy Prague’s beauty.

  • Architecture & City Stories Tour

The city of Prague contains amazing historical architecture from around the 10th century until mid-20th century. One of the best activities in Prague is to let the cities architectural secrets and stories unfold in private tour led by locals who know the area like the back of their hand, and can tailor the tour to suit your personal interests.

Take a leisurely 3 hour walk, and get up close and personal with a diverse range of amazing buildings and architectural styles such as Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, Art Nouveau and last but not least Cubism and Art Deco.

  • Take a City Bike Tour

There’s a lot of activities in Prague an it can take a while to get around walking. The answer: Take a bike tour! Your local guide can set you up with a bike and take you pedaling past some remarkable historic (and modern) sites and architecture and including the Vltava River, Charles Bridge, John Lennon Wall, the historic Jewish Quarter, riverside promenades, beautiful Malá Strana, Kampa Park, and many hidden spots. Learn all about the history and stories of Prague from your local guide on a relaxed-paced bike ride. You might work up a sweat on a hot day, but the views and a cool drink at the end will more than make up for it.

  • Vegetarian Dinner in a Bohemian Home

Not exactly the land that vegetables forgot — although Czech Republic is famed for its meat dishes — it’s actually pretty easy to find vegetarian food in Prague (there’s a vegan restaurant just across the Charles Bridge in Malá Strana).

A fantastic way of enjoying vegetarian, vegan or raw food is with a local host, who can prepare a meal to suit your dietary requirements using fresh local ingredients and cook them with distinct Czech flair. Try main dishes like vegan burgers, stuffed zucchini with potatoes — also soups and a variety of spreads.

Enjoy vegetarian the Bohemian way — one of the great activities in Prague!

  • Vysehrad Historical Private Tour

The Vyšehrad fortress is a historical fort established in the 11th century. Few people know it has been more important than the Prague castle for several centuries, but locals do. That’s why it’s a good idea to take a tour led by a local guide. You'll get to hear all about the fort’s glorious past and historical importance.

Local legend actually has it that Vyšehrad was the location of the first settlement which grew into Prague, though this claim remains uncertain. More trivia: Vyšehrad contains the ashes of famous classical composer Anton Dvořák whose ashes are interred in the Vyšehrad cemetery.

About local

I booked this tour with my 14 year old daughter in mind, as something to break up the history/museum/architecture tours I'd planned for Prague. Little did I know I would LOVE it as much as she did! Petr had everything ready for us to begin to learn about graffiti art and then create our own mural. He helped us practice techniques and was encouraging with his instruction and tips to help bring our ideas to fruition. I loved that he let us practice and play with the paint, nozzles, and techniques so that we could get comfortable with the medium before starting. After we were done, we had a heightened appreciation for all the street art around Prague, knowing how much skill goes into it. Petr took photos and videos throughout, which he shared before we'd even returned to our hotel, so I didn't have to worry about anything except making my graffiti art. Be sure to read the info he sends in advance to start thinking about your tag, if you want to send a favorite color in advance, to see the location info, etc. We neglected to do that but it is a credit to how prepared Petr was to provide an exceptional experience, that our lack of pre-planning had no negative impact on the day as he'd planned for all contingencies. Great for solo travelers; large multigenerational families; and everything in between! 10/10 strongly recommend!

Unexpected graffiti FUN!

Our family of 4 from the states had the most amazing time with Petr and his graffiti workshop. He was friendly and professional. My children said this was their favorite activity while in Prague! Petr was patient with my family! We had so much fun!

Perfect in every way

Such a fun and unique experience for our family (8, 14, 17 & adults)! Petr had everything we needed-coveralls to protect our clothes, different nozzles and tons of paint can choices, even a Czechia snack and drink- all set up for us and ready to go. He was great at explaining the basics for us beginners and had easy to understand techniques for making a fantastic display. Early on, our 8 year old had some difficulty and Petr stepped in, worked with her and she was all set to go.
