The Eiffel Tower is one of the most instantly recognizable structures in the world. It was built in 1889 by Gustave Eiffel for the World’s Fair, and has become both an enduring symbol of Paris and a global icon. It stands 324 metres tall and is the tallest structure in Paris. It was the tallest man-made structure in the world until the completion of the Chrysler Building in New York in 1930. The Eiffel Tower is made of iron, and was originally painted red. It is now painted in a shade of brown that is darker at the bottom and lighter at the top. The Tower has three levels, and the highest is open to the public. There are stairs and elevators to take visitors up to the top, where there are incredible views over Paris. On a clear day, you can see for up to 40 kilometres. The Eiffel Tower is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world, and has welcomed more than 250 million visitors since it opened. It is lit up at night, and is especially stunning when viewed from across the River Seine.
Alexia was a delight as she toured us through the charming neighborhood of Montmartre. She made sure to cater the experience to our tastes and was full of stories of the different areas we walked through. She knew the best spots to stop for a little snack (an amazing pastry shop and chocolatier!) and was a huge help in asking for recommendations for the duration of our Paris trip. Alexia is a tremendously thoughtful and knowledgeable guide and we enjoyed our time with her thoroughly!
Alex had a wonderful itinerary planned for us. She sent me about 5 options to choose from and I picked one that ended in and around the neighborhood where we were staying. I also let her know we love food! It was great to be able to tailor our tour to our interests. She took us to a handful of sweets shops with different delicacies along with a shop for us to purchase good pate and cheese. We got a lot of history along the way and got to see a few hidden gems as well. She talked with each of us individually as we walked. She gave us suggestions for the rest of our stay...many of which we have checked off our list. We loved our tour with Alex!
Anukool has lived in France for a long time and loves his city. He is very knowledgeable about French history and an engaging conversationalist. He can also show you many non-touristy corners and give you good tips for the time you spend on your own. We took a customized tour with him and really enjoyed being with him.
Paolo exceeded all expectations. He has a gift for distilling complicated histories into understandable explanations. His passion for art and history are immediately apparent. He guided us through the foundational elements for a first time visitor to Paris, all the while, explaining the significance of everything we passed. He wove in the history of Europe as we strolled.
