Montmartre is a large hill in Paris's 18th arrondissement. It is 130 metres (430 feet) high and gives its name to the surrounding district, part of the Right Bank in the northern section of the city. The historic district established by the City of Paris in 1995 is bordered by rue Caulaincourt and rue Custine on the north, rue de Clignancourt on the east, and boulevard de Clichy and boulevard de Rochechouart to the south, containing 60 ha. Montmartre is primarily known for its artistic history, the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur on its summit, and as a nightclub district. The other, older, church on the hill is Saint Pierre de Montmartre, which claims to be the location at which the Jesuit missionary Saint Ignatius of Loyola received communion before travelling to Mont Saint-Michel.
Joao was a wonderful guide. He was friendly and showed us some lovely places around Montmartre. He was also very accommodating. We had our 9 year old boy with us, who was fascinated with Photography. Joao was very patient with him and encouraged him to take photos too. We all had a wonderful afternoon and our glad Joao was able to help us make some memories in Paris together.
Olivia was a wonderful tour guide. Clearly, she knows history very well and the neighborhood. She was also very considerate of our group who did not move very fast and she tended to one of us who had a coughing fit during the tour, by running for a bottle of water.
Absolutely worth doing the Trip with Paolo. Lots of interesting details. We were a family of four, the children being 17 and 20. Both not at all interested in being guided around, in arts and especially not that evening. In the end, they asked a lot of questions and told us, that Paolo was great and despite they didn't want to go out again, it was worth it participating. My husband and I loved the tour and the way, Paolo presented all the information. He was humerous, had lots of patience with the kids and didn't loose the good mood so in the end, all of us had a really good time. Thanks so much, Paolo!
This tour was a wonderful way to see the vibrant and bustling Monmartre! Maxime shared his love for the food, the experience of food as part of the culture, and for Paris in general. He is a true professional and a student of his craft, not only sharing the history of the foods we tried and helping us understand what made each stop special, but also, explaining the history of Monmartre in a way that kept even my 16 year old engaged! For those that may wonder, the food was plenty and we were very full by the end! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Maxime for any of the tours he offers - you won't be disappointed.
