Museum Island in Berlin is home to 5 world-renowned museums. The Berlin State Museums, comprising the Altes Museum, the Neues Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Bode Museum and the Pergamon Museum are all located here. Together, they tell the story of human history and culture from ancient times to the present day. The Altes Museum, built between 1823 and 1830, is the oldest of the 5 museums. It houses classical antiquities from Greece, Rome and Egypt, as well as a collection of Etruscan and South Italian vases. The Neues Museum, which reopened in 2009 after a 7-year renovation, is home to the world-famous bust of Queen Nefertiti, as well as the Egyptian and prehistoric collections. The Alte Nationalgalerie, built in the late 19th century, is a showcase for 19th-century paintings and sculptures. The collection includes works by Caspar David Friedrich, Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and Auguste Rodin. The Bode Museum, which reopened in 2006 after a major renovation, houses the Museum Island's collection of sculptures, coins, and Byzantine art. The Pergamon Museum, built in 1930, houses the world-famous collection of antiquities from the ancient city of Pergamon in present-day Turkey. The collection includes the monumental Pergamon Altar and the Ishtar Gate of Babylon.
Juan was friendly, knowledgeable, and took his time to answer all my questions. I wish I had done the tour at the beginning of my trip and not on the last day. I learned so much about Berlin from him, I wish I'd had more days to explore based on his recommendations. I highly recommend the tour and Juan!
One if the nicest guides I have ever had. The time we spen with him was the best. He was kind and informative. Kept the pace for my 81 year old mother. Don't know how he did it, but we even got a full rainbow at sunset.
We had just a fabulous outing with Miha to Potsdam! Miha is so easy to be with and has great knowledge of Germany and the area. It was so relaxing to be driven to the city and the castles, and Miha told us right away that the day could be whatever we wanted it to be. We enjoyed lunch in the Dutch Quarter. He drove us back through Berlin in a route we had not seen and really enjoyed. Really one of the best days of our vacation because it was so relaxing! Thank you Miha!
Excellent walk and talk on the development of German architecture in Berlin. It’s not an art tour but a talk about each of the buildings and the overall model of Berlin in the Markisches Museum is fascinating. Boys is knowledge and warm hearted. We thoroughly enjoyed our time.
