Under the Acropolis Rock there is one market that marries the East to the West. Multi-culturalism has a true meaning here. Buildings, objects and even people from different cultures and religions are successfully combined to create the most popular market in Athens, the flea market in Monastiraki. Each Sunday from 9:00am both locals and visitors check out the vintage furniture, clothes, shoes and many more in order to find the best bargain possible.
A little further down the road lies the Central Market. This is a food market that is mainly equipped with meat and fish products. Despite that, you can find spices and traditional Greek products such as olives or cheese to take back home. The Central market is open from Monday to Saturday from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Make sure you wear your sneakers because the roads are always covered in water.
This Athens' market is the largest one in Greece. It can be found in the Marousi district and it is accessible both by taxi and bus. It is open for public from Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 9:00pm and on Saturdays from 9:00am to 8:00pm. The Mall Athens is a modern market option which can be combined with a nice lunch or coffee at the mall's establishments. It houses many famous international brands as well as Greek clothing chains.
Located in the Plaka district this market in Athens carries a long history. This market used to be filled with child's toy stores. Nowadays the Andrianou market in Athens follows the same visitor-centered mentality and offer huge bargains on leather clothes, textiles, jewelry and pieces of folk art. The stores are open from Monday to Saturday from early in the morning until late in the afternoon.

I had an incredible experience with Ioannis on an off-the-beaten-path tour of Athens. From the very beginning, he really listened to what I was interested in and tailored the tour to match. He took us through local neighborhoods that combined street art, culture, and history in such a thoughtful way. One of the highlights was when he showed us some hard-to-find ancient frescoes tucked away in an area I would have walked right past if I were on my own. Ioannis was kind, funny, and deeply knowledgeable. His English was perfect, and he made the whole experience feel relaxed and engaging. He even gave us great recommendations for places to eat after the tour, which turned out to be just as spot-on as everything else he shared. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him and will absolutely book another tour the next time I’m in Athens. I can’t recommend him highly enough.
