Best Activities in Budapest

Besides all the mainstream activities in Budapest, there are some alternative ones that you should not miss. With the help of your personal local guide, you can easily schedule them into your trip to Budapest. Here are the most enjoyable, not-to-miss activities in Budapest that will surely make your stay unforgettable.

  • Hungarian Cooking Class with Market walk

By enrolling this class, you can learn great things about the Hungarian cuisine with all its bits and pieces. You can get familiar with the special ingredients like sour cream (tejföl), paprika, Piros Arany, and so on. You can directly ask questions from the chef, and take all that knowledge home to cook that particular dish to your beloved ones.

You can also include a market walk into this great gastro experience. At the market, you will hear about the history of the market hall, and get introduced to an extended variety of Hungarian foods and goodies.

  • Take a huge photo tour

Would you like to flood the social media with your trip to Budapest? Ask your local guide to take you to the best photo spots where they will takes photos of you. Visit the beautiful Normafa and snap a picture of the top of the hill, from Erzsébet Tower. Don’t miss pictures from Fishermen’s Bastille where – as they say – the view is the most beautiful of Budapest.

BKK launched their public transport boats a couple of years ago. From these boats, there is an amazing view on the inner city of Budapest. You’ll be able to take pictures of the beautiful building of the Parliament, the Castle, the Bridges, the Gellért Hill, and from many more spectacular sights, from a special angle.

  • Check out Budapest Film Locations

The exceptional and unique scenes of Budapest inspired the most well-known film producers throughout the world. Have you seen the famous ‘A good day to Die Hard’, ‘Evita’ or ‘I spy’? In some movies Budapest ‘played’ other cities, like Berlin (Spy Game) or Moscow (Die Hard), but it’s still among the most enjoyable activities in Budapest to spot out these scenes.

Your local host can show you many more spots where famous movies were shot in Budapest. These include well known sights, and hidden areas as well, but with your host on your side, you can explore all of them.

  • Experience a 5 course Hungarian feast

One thing is better than eating and it is eating a lot. Hungarians are known for their unique cuisine and their love for food. Check out this special relationship on a home dinner in a local chef’s home. Try seasonal tastes where the dishes can be anything from stuffed cabbage, beef stew, to bread-pudding, strudel, or anything else you can think about.

Ask the local chef about her recommendations. This is a great way to learn about Hungarian food and to get to know all the bits and pieces while cooking. You can also take the recipes home with you.

  • Take a Trabant tour

Trabant cars are of Eastern-German origin and were exported to many socialist countries, including Hungary. Before the change of the regime this was the most common type of car in the country and today it represents the past, the Communist Era of the county. What is it like? It has a 2-stroke engine made of paper and plastic, that contributes 26 horsepower, embedded in a peculiar-looking little noise machine. It’s a real, nostalgic experience.

Therefore, booking a Trabant city tour is among the most enjoyable activities in Budapest. Now you can visit the picturesque János Hill overlooking Budapest and its surroundings with a Trabant!

George is great!

Our family of four with a 10 and 6-year-old had a great experience with George. He walked us through the market, sharing local insights and history. The market experience definitely made this feel authentic, like a local purchasing fresh ingredients. He clearly has a passion for food, cooking and Hungarian culture which he shared with us. We enjoyed his cooking tutorials- even our 6 y/o picked up some chopping skills under supervision. He fully engages everyone to be part of the cooking and we made an excellent chicken paprikash whole enjoying local wine. His cooking space (new this summer) is excellent as well. Overall, this felt like a genuine local experience and would highly recommend.

Excellent Foodapest experience!

We had the best Foodapest cooking experience with George!! We are a family of 5 and the children are 17, 12 and 8, and George did brilliantly to include them all in everything that we did. A lovely stroll around the market, and then such fun cooking delicious food. It was so good that our middle son was desperate to cook it all again as soon as we got home! George was great to share the recipes with us and we had a lot of fun. Thanks again George!

Wonderful Experience

Our afternoon with George was incredible. We had so much and the overall experience was amazing. We got to see the market and learn a bit of its history then cook a wonderful meal together and see a true apartment in Budapest. This was one of the main highlights to our trip and we would recommend to anyone visiting. Truly a great way to learn about Hungarian culture and food. Thank you again for such an amazing time and experience. Feel like we’ve made a new friend.
