The Szechenyi Chain Bridge is a suspension bridge that spans the River Danube between Buda and Pest, the western and eastern sides of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. The bridge has a main span of 503 metres (1,650 ft) and was the first permanent bridge across the Danube in Hungary. It was opened in 1849. The bridge is named after Count István Széchenyi, a leader of the Hungarian Reform Era, who initiated its construction. It was designed by the English engineer William Tierney Clark. At the time of its construction, the Szechenyi Chain Bridge was considered one of the wonders of the world. It is still the widest suspension bridge in Europe.
We enjoyed every minute of our tour and Emoke’s excellent insight and comments regarding Hungarian history. We highly recommend Emoke and this tour.
My wife and I had arrived earlier in the afternoon, and had a scheduled a tour with Bea in the early evening. She was the perfect introduction to Budapest, helping to orient us both on the major sites and on some of the nooks and crannies - the lessor known sites - and enabling us to navigate our way around for the balance of our visit. She also took the time to explain the history, giving us a deeper appreciation of what we were seeing. Would highly recommend her as your guide!
We had the best day! Andras provided excellent information, beautiful sites, and lots of entertainment. We definitely saw things that we never would have found on our own. Thank you Andras for such a lovely time!
We had a thoroughly enjoyable and interesting tour with Gábor He has an amazing knowledge of Budapest and Hungary. For us he focused on History and Architecture and threw in many other facts and observations. I couldn’t recommend more highly.
