I had a truly eye-opening and memorable experience visiting the Dharavi Slum in Mumbai, thanks to Gautam, my incredible guide. From the start, it was clear he was deeply familiar with the area—not just the layout, but the history, the industries, and the rich cultural backgrounds of the people who live and work there. His knowledge added so much depth and context to what we were seeing, and I learned a great deal throughout the tour. What really stood out was how respectful he was to the residents and the businesses we encountered. He moved through the community with care and thoughtfulness, always prioritizing the dignity and privacy of the people who call Dharavi home. It was a powerful experience, handled with sensitivity and insight. I had a great time and would highly recommend doing this tour with Gautam to anyone looking to understand more about this vibrant and resilient community.
We spent the day with Shrikanth and it was a very special experience of Mumbai but also in connecting with Shrikanth. Our day together was very personalized based on our interests and our request for Shrikanth to show us his hidden Mumbai, though we had a list of tourist attractions from the internet, we only actually saw one of them- The Gate of India/Taj Hotel. This was perfect because Shrikanth chose to expose us to unique, non-tourist attractions and experiences. We walked neighborhoods of Colonial "mansions", we rode the local train - hanging out the doorways as we trundled through the city, we visited the largest and oldest outdoor laundry in India, the Ghandi House museum - fascinating, the flagship store of the top haute couture fashion label in India - the Christian Church that marks the Zero distances for all of India mileage markers, an local Indian brew pub - it was very hot out!, a very old and famous ice cream stand, a walk along the Art Deco architecture of Marine Drive.... and so much more. Shrikanth, is a street photographer so we were shown the fascinating, raw and gritty, images of the real Mumbai through his lens. Shrikanth is knowledgeable and fun to be with. We are so happy we found him! Jeffry y Neil - Costa Rica
Gautam is not only extremely knowledgeable of history of India and different religions, was instrumental to guide us at the proper times to the different areas of the city from the port to downtown to the Laundry and slums. I even enjoyed a magnificent haircut and head massage in the slums for US$2, a great and interesting experience! Not only this, took and shared with us excellent professional quality pictures and videos of our tour.
Thank you to Shrikanth - a great tour. Good English, listened to what we were interested in, adjusted accordingly, lots of time for questions and reflecting on the surroundings. Wonderful rich diverse mix of stopping points - culture, history, art, food, wide range of shopping outlets. A wonderful afternoon. Would recommend.
