Borobudur Temple is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple in Magelang Regency, not far from the town of Muntilan, in Central Java, Indonesia. The temple consists of nine stacked platforms, six square and three circular, topped by a central dome. The temple is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated inside a perforated stupa. The temple was built by the Kingdom of Sailendra, a Sailendra dynasty that ruled Central Java between the 8th and 9th centuries. The temple design follows Javanese Buddhist architecture, which blends the Indonesian indigenous form of the stupa with the Indian Gupta style. It is believed that the temple was a place for the royal family and Buddhist monks to study and meditate. Borobudur was abandoned following the 14th-century decline of Hindu kingdoms in Java and the Javanese conversion to Islam. War and earthquakes damaged the temple, and it was forgotten until it was rediscovered in the 19th century by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles. It has since been restored and is a popular tourist destination.
Very knowledgeable guide who was accommodating in every way
Tini was very professional. Here knowledge on the history of the surrounding area and Indonesia as a whole was very in-depth. I can't remember her not knowing the answer to any question I asked. She was excellent.......
We took a one-day tour to Borobudur and Prambanan temples with Tini. She was friendly and easy to talk to. She picked us up at Yogyakarta airport and dropped us off at our hotel afterward. Adjusting the pickup time was simple. Tini shared a lot of interesting facts about the temples and Indonesia. We had a nice lunch at a local restaurant. The temples were simply incredible. Highly recommend!
