Adriano was such a fun and informative guide during our bike tour of Bari. Such a wonderful, authentic way to see the town. Learned some very fun facts and saw the town from a local’s perspective. Adriano is so friendly and hospitable, he made us feel so comfortable in his home town. We highly recommend doing the bike tour with Adriano if you’re in Bari!
Never having been to Bari before, my husband and I contacted WithLocals. We were lucky enough to be assigned to Adriano, a Barese native with a breadth of knowledge about the area. He provided us with in depth information and the history, the food, and the culture. After the tour he sent us tips for dining in Bari, above and beyond. A great experience.
We asked Adriano for a custom tour of local neighborhoods instead of the typical tourist spots and he delivered a very special half-day walking tour. We started at the open air market where locals buy vegetables, seafood, and more. We walked by the train station, parks, university and theaters. He explained the historic evolution of the different areas of the city and highlighted different building styles. The best part was all of the local places that we visited where he knew the owners who welcomed us warmly as he explained how the family that owned the bakery actually drove McDonald's out of the countyside. We ate warm focaccia like locals on the go, toured a 100-year-old wine shop where they hid in the cellar during the war, and even visited the local shoemaker. He showed us the spot where he meets friends to listen to music, read a book or enjoy a beer. It was 100% unique and exactly what we hoped it would be.
When my husband and I decided on going to Italy, we planned the places we wanted to visit. He then sent me on the quest to find the tours and places to stay. I found With Locals and the tours offered. We could have chosen a number of guides, however, Adriano's eyes smiled with the rest of his face. His welcoming bio told us all we needed to know. When we met him in person, he knew the answers to the questions a religion teacher would ask! He showed us the back allies of the city and introduced us to the food. He even was kind enough to change the meeting place to where we were staying since it was close to the start of where we were most interested in on the tour! St. Nicholas' shrine!! He never rushed us, took time with showing us his city.
