Best Activities in Florence

There are so many enjoyable activities in Florence, from cooking classes to exploring art galleries to browsing local markets. No matter where your interests lie, it really isn’t a stretch to say there’s a Florence activity for everyone! Read on for some of our favorite picks.

  • Learn Traditional Tuscan Cooking From Your Local Host

Tuscan cuisine is popular for a reason! It’s an almost guarantee that you’ll have fallen in love with it by the end of your trip. So, how will you satisfy your Italian food craving when you get home? Here’s how: take a cooking class with your local host! Your host will be more than happy to teach you how to make some of the many Florence foods that you love. To gather all the necessary items needed for prep, browsing the local food markets to source ingredients is an enjoyable activity in Florence in itself. Don’t forget to sample as you go!

  • Take a Day Trip to Nearby Tuscan Town

One of the best things about Florence is that it’s not just the city itself that offers so much to explore, the surrounding areas are also beautiful and brimming with activities. Ask your local host to tell you about all the different regions in Tuscany, and they can help you narrow down where to go and how to get there. Whether you decide on Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano or Fiesole, you’re bound to fall even more in love with Tuscany and everything it has to offer.

  • Go Wine Tasting in Florence

Love wine? You couldn’t have picked a better place to indulge in a fun afternoon or evening of wine tasting than Florence! One of the most popular attractions in Florence is going on a wine tasting tour either in the city or in the nearby Chianti region. Many wine tasting tours are held in the vineyards or wine estates and also offer local cheeses and lunch items that complement the wines you’re trying.

If you’re not keen of organized tours, ask your local host to take you to some of their favorite wine bars in Florence. Spend an evening bar hopping your way through these and trying some of the many different wines from the surrounding Tuscan regions.

  • Explore the City’s Beautiful Garden Scene

Forget bar hopping, in Florence you can go garden hopping! If you’re a lover of the outdoors, this is one of the most enjoyable activities in Florence. The city is absolutely brimming with gorgeous gardens. The most popular ones are the Boboli Gardens in the center, which can be described as an open air museum. There is a stunning variety of fountains and statues within the grounds. It’s easy to spend a sunny afternoon (or two) here.

For those of you looking for a more quiet garden experience, your host can guide you to the smaller but still beautiful Rose Garden, which is more well known amongst locals. The Giardino Bardini is another local favorite garden in Florence, and offers spectacular panoramic views of the city.

  • Climb to the top of the Duomo

The Duomo isn’t just a Florence attraction to admire from a distance, or explore within the church. It can also be included as one of the top activities in Florence. We’re talking about climbing to the top of the Duomo of course! Climbing up the 438 steps to get to the top of the Duomo is so worth it when you get a glimpse of the views it has to offer. In fact, you’ll find yourself at the highest point in the city center when you get there. So you can just imagine the type of views that you’ll be able to see! Your local host can point out some more Florence highlights once you’re up there.

Fantastic And Unique Family Experience

Simone was very friendly and knowledgeable. Communication was great leading up to our day together. On the morning of our booking it was raining so Simone adapted our experience that made it fun for the whole family. We learned about where Giotto grew up and visited a beautiful church. We then went to the saffron farm and had beautiful honey, meat and cheese and wine! We got to meet so many farm animals and learn about the native birds. Our kids 9 and 10 absolutely loved it and so did we! We hope to do more tours with Simone.

A unique, wonderful, breath of freah air!

This tour was everything our family hoped for and more. We were needing a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and this beautiful, hike through the countryside was the answer. Simone showed us interesting historical sights, local towns and foods, pointed out various plants and trees, answered our many questions and ended with a true local lunch at a family run farm and winery. It was a breath to fresh air: fun, interesting, beautiful and delicious.

It doesn't get more local than Simone

Simone was an absolute star as a host, giving us the best day. We were very unfortunate that there was heavy rain during our 'hike & wine tour', but Simone was flexible and smart enough to give it an amazing twist. We went around in his car, got a tour of the winery, and dropped us a a local restaurant for delicious pasta at lunch. Instead of the day being washed away by rain, Simone gave it a twist that exceeded all our expectations. Thank you!!!
