The Colosseum or Coliseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is an oval amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. Built of concrete and stone, it is the largest amphitheatre ever built. The Colosseum is situated just east of the Roman Forum. Construction began under the emperor Vespasian in 72 AD, and was completed in 80 AD under his successor and heir Titus. Dedicated for use by the Roman people and free of charge, it was the largest structure of its kind in the Roman world; its seating capacity of 50,000 spectators was exceeded only by the capacity of the Theatre of Marcellus.
We had the pleasure of touring the Colosseum in Rome with Monica as our guide, and she was truly exceptional. From the moment we met her, Monica was warm, thoughtful, and incredibly knowledgeable. She brought ancient history to life with fascinating facts and stories that made the experience so much more meaningful. Her passion for Rome and its rich heritage was evident in every detail she shared, and she made sure everyone in our group felt included and engaged. Beyond being a fantastic guide, Monica is simply a wonderful person to be around—kind, patient, and full of positive energy. We wholeheartedly recommend Monica to anyone visiting Rome. She made our visit to the Colosseum unforgettable, and we're so grateful for the experience!
Cecilia communicated with us very clearly prior to our tour, was thoughtful about our smallest travellers on an incredibly hot day and used many different tools (visuals, scavenger hunt, questions) to engage our group. I made a mistake with the date of our entry tickets and she helped problem-solve so we could jump into the tour and make the best of it. I would certainly book Cecilia again to guide our family.
We had the best time in Pietro in Rome. It was hot, and he took the time to find shade and water as we walked round the Colosseum and Roman Forum. He answered our questions and was very engaging. A highlight of our trip! We would highly recommend!
