The Pyramid of Caius Cestius is a first-century AD funerary monument located in Rome, Italy. It stands at a height of over 30 metres (100 feet) and is made of brick-faced concrete. The pyramid was built as a tomb for Caius Cestius, a magistrate and member of the Septimii, a wealthy family of equestrians (upper class citizens who did not serve in the military). The monument was probably constructed between 18 and 12 BC. The pyramid is located near the Porta San Paolo, the gateway to Rome from the south. It is the only Egyptian-style pyramid in Rome and one of the best-preserved ancient monuments in the city. The pyramid is thought to have been inspired by the tomb of Pharaoh Djoser at Saqqara, Egypt. The pyramid was once covered in white stucco and painted to look like marble. It is thought that the pyramid was originally topped with a bronze statue of Caius Cestius. The pyramid is now surrounded by a park and is a popular tourist destination.
Amandio was absolutely amazing! He was very knowledgeable, funny and made us feel so welcome and comfortable. We would 100% come back and have him show us around other parts of Rome. Can’t emphasize enough how much we appreciated him! One of the best things we’ve done this vacation!
It was an absolute pleasure spending the morning with Amandio! Our kids aged 10 and 8 were engaged with facts, games and jokes. Our youngest shared the tandem e-bike with Amandio as there was no complaining about pedalling up hills. Lots of local knowledge and history. Thank you Amandio for such a memorable tour!
While this was a bit ambitious for the less-practiced cyclists in our family, Nicola was very caring in accommodating us all. It was an unique insight into the emerging and contemporary corners of Rome, as well as some hidden special hidden highlights and flavours. This personalised tour really brought to life a side of Rome outside the guide book.
Loved the totally customized tour. Cycling through travestere and the back roads was an awesome first day in Rome. His recommendation of Augusto restaurant was perfect for dinner. A zillion stars
