Be like a local in Rome during the weekend. The city is filled with interesting sights, thanks to its thousands of years of history! From exploring the Vatican City to wandering along the Spanish Steps, you’ll surely have a terrific weekend in Rome! If you’re wondering what to do in Rome at the weekend, then here are some tips! Saturday: Vatican City Begin your trip with a tour of the Vatican City. Spend some time exploring the Vatican Museum, which houses an extensive collection of Christian and Roman art pieces. Visit the Sistine Chapel and marvel at Michelangelo’s painting at the ceiling. Make sure you drop by at the St Peter's Basilica, which is right at the heart of the Vatican. Saturday: Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon Your trip to Rome won’t be complete without a visit to the Trevi Fountain. The fountain features a Baroque style of architecture and was built in the early 18th century. From the Trevi, make your way towards the Pantheon. Explore this impressive ancient Roman building, which is almost 2,000 years old. Saturday: Colosseum At Night Although the Colosseum looks impressive at any time of the day, it looks even more magical at night! Explore the massive arena and marvel at the ancient site, which is almost empty at night. If you still have time, check out the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill nearby. After your tour, head to the nearby pizzerias and indulge in a slice of the best Italian pizza! Sunday: Spanish Steps If you want to indulge in some retail therapy, then head to the Spanish Steps! Even if you don’t intend to shop, wandering along the area is one of the most enjoyable things to do in Rome at the weekend. The place is lined with 16th-century buildings featuring Italian Renaissance architecture. Some of Rome’s best restaurants and cafes are also in this area so it’s also a great spot to enjoy a Sunday brunch. Sunday: Villa Borghese Gardens The Borghese is a great place to relax away from the crowded streets of Rome. This beautiful park has a lot to offer. You can explore the park on a bike, go on a picnic, or simply take a walk. Join other locals who would visit the park on weekends to spend some quality time with family and friends!
This was our second tour using WithLocals and we had another wonderful experience. Our guide was Pietro Paolo and his tour was fantastic. Pietro has extensive knowledge of the history of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Italy and kept us engaged throughout the entire tour . I highly recommend Pietro - you won’t be disappointed.
We spent a whole day together with the friendly Matteo. We started the day at a hidden gem of a café in Rome, then drove to Lago di Bracciano before arriving in the charming village of Calcata. Matteo was knowledgeable, and we learned a lot about the places we visited and about Rome in general. We had an exquisite lunch at IL Guazzabuglio. Before heading back to Rome, we visited the tearoom La Sala, which boasts 101 types of tea and over 500 teapots. Thank you so much, Matteo, for an unforgettable day. But be warned—if you don’t like cats, Calcata is teeming with them!
We (my partner and I) had the most incredible private and personalised version of this tour with Paolo. Not only did he spend longer than originally planned to ensure we saw everything and answered our many questions, but Paolo was a true font of all knowledge. He brought the history of Rome to life, and we could not recommend him more.
When my husband and I decided to come to Italy, we did our own thing due to my physical limitations. We decided to see both the Vatican and Colosseum. We liked the looks of Carlo; he smiled with his eyes as well as his whole face. We booked him for both experiences. He allowed this religion teacher to go down rabbit holes in the Vatican. Walked at our pace in both places. He was very knowledgeable about both places and very passionate about history. If we ever come back to Rome and want to take a tour, Carlo is our go to guy!!
