36 Things To Do Today in Lisbon

5 Best things to do in Lisbon on a rainy day

  • Get immersed in the local art world

The great thing about unexpected weather is that it forces us to think creatively and perhaps step outside of our normal day-to-day activities. While you consider activities to keep you stimulated, yet dry, we think one of the coolest things to do in Lisbon on a rainy day is to visit the city's art galleries.

Become a cutting edge connoisseur on Portugal's up-and-coming artists thanks to your private guide who will give you an insider's tour of the capital city's most acclaimed galleries. Take in the contemporary works of local painters and sculptors, and perhaps even consider a piece to brilliantly complete your own home collection and remind you of the wonderful stormy Lisbon weather!

  • Become a Portuguese food expert

While the rain may dampen plans to hit the beach, it should in no way dampen your appetite. Luckily for you, Portugal is bursting with gastronomic specialties that are a must-try for any visitor. Hands down one of the most sublime things to do in Lisbon on a rainy day is a food tour, led by your very own private local host.

Put yourself in your guide's knowledgeable hands, and be led through the city in search of Portugal's traditional favourites like cured meats, ample seafood delicacies, rich pastries, and local wines. And as you fill your stomach, fill your bags too with treats to take home in remembrance of such a fabulous day.

  • Go for a drive with a local tour guide

There is a certain splendour to the city when it is glistening wet, cast in the light of a rainstorm. One of the best things to do in Lisbon on a rainy day is to take in the city's glorious sites, and what better way to do that than on your own private jeep tour? Stay dry and comfortable as your local guide drives you to the city's most acclaimed historical neighbourhoods, like Alfama, Bairro Alto, and Cais do Sodre.

Then you are off to nearby Belem, where you can visit the grand Jeronimos Monastery and Belem Tower. Finish off your time together at a traditional cafe, where a hot coffee and Portuguese pastry top off the end of an unforgettable afternoon.

  • Discover Lisbon's secret symbols

Heading out during a rainstorm is actually a brilliant idea; as the rest of the city takes cover indoors, you have Lisbon's narrow, charming streets all to yourself. Now is the perfect time to absorb the city to its fullest. One of the most intellectually stimulating things to do in Lisbon on a rainy day is to learn about the city's secret Illuminati symbols and occult history.

Meet up with your local guide, an expert on the topic, and dive into the capital's rich, mysterious history. You will be amazed as you learn secrets unknown to most tourists and locals alike, as symbols that are found in obvious places throughout the city are uncovered and their shocking significance is explained.

  • Sit down to a home-cooked Portuguese feast

There is something deliciously comforting about an hours-long dinner during a big storm. And while restaurant dining definitely has its charm, one of the most memorable things to do in Lisbon on a rainy day is go to dinner at a local's home. Like being welcomed into the home of an old friend, your local hosts will invite you to relax, get comfortable, and take in the wonderful aromas escaping from the kitchen as they prepare a multi-course dinner based on some of Portugal's most famous dishes. Prepare to feast on traditional seafood and meat dishes, finishing off your unforgettable dinner with a typical Portuguese sweet.

Amazing deep dive into Lisbon street art!!

We loved our time with Igor. He kept both the adults and kids (8 and 10) engaged for the entire 3 hour tour. We learned a lot about Lisbon street art and saw some streets and parts of Lisbon we wouldn’t experience otherwise. A+ tour with A++ guide. Thank you Igor!

Sylvia hosted my family and me for a food tour in Lisbon. The words that we used to describe her at breakfast the next day were delightful, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, captivating, lovely and many more superlative adjectives. The places she took us to are the types of places we love to go to but would never find them on our own in a million years. The food served was truly amazing with lots of variety. At each restaurant we visited Sylvia told the story of why she chose this one and with each dish she told it's story. I would unhesitantly recommend you engage Sylvia for your food tour of Lisbon. Do it now before she gets too busy to accommodate you!

Angelo is the BEST - book him NOW

Don't waste your time looking for anyone else. Angelo's tour was perfect. He prefers to think of it as a conversation among friends, strolling through the city, and enjoying authentic local food and drink along the way. He is very agreeable to adjusting the tour according to your preferences. When it comes time to say goodbye and end the tour, you feel like you are saying goodbye to an old friend. Highly recommend. Book him without hesitation.

Absolutely fabulous tour by Sylvain!

We were lucky enough to choose Sylvain for a guide. He is incredibly knowledgeable with not only food and the foods of Lisbon but the history of Lisbon as well. He chose the highest quality of establishments to bring us to. He knew we were very interested in wines and he made that a priority. His love for wine and food really made this tour the best tour we have ever had and we have taken many around the world. I can’t recommend him enough. Thank you Sylvain!
