We started later than the designated time so Gilbert suggested we see the Mandela exhibit at City Hall. And rather than dashing off, he was generous enough of his time to allow us to take a quick walk through a wonderfully curated short exhibit of Mandela and his years in Cape Town.
But that set the stage for the rest of the tour. Gilbert shared his personal story of his family and how they were displaced from District 6 and resettled in the Townships being offered for relocation.
Gilbert shared vintage photographs of the District and overlaid where appropriate what stood at which spot and how the area is being rebuilt.
The transition into Woodstock was an eye opener. Both from the beautiful street art work and the history of the neighborhood.
We ended the tour on a different note.
Having been to the Old Biscuit Mill, Gilbert offered to walk us to Observation. An area undergoing gentrification and with a totally different vibe.
We said goodbye with him recommending a restaurant for lunch for us. A badly needed respite from all that walking.
Certainly a very entertaining afternoon. Something we’d never have done on our own and we leave richer, knowing more of the history and background of Cape Town.

A must in Cape Town!
Gilbert was incredibly knowledgeable and took us to hidden gems in the city that we would never have discovered on our own. The variety of local dishes we sampled were amazing, and the insights into the culture and history of each location made the experience even more enriching. If you're looking for a unique way to explore Cape Town, I highly recommend this tour!

A Must-do in Cape Town
We spent 4 fantastic hours on a walking tour with wonderful Sebastian.
We saw such a variety of areas and sights in Cape Town and felt we had a much fuller understanding of the historical backdrop, as well as a unique insight into the city's present, and the daily life of a local.
Sebastian was a lot of fun and made sure the tour was perfectly tailored to us. We came away feeling we now knew Cape Town much better than we ever would have discovering it on our own.
We're glad we booked it for near the start of our trip. It also helped us to feel safe in the City on our own for the rest of the trip, as we were able to ask Sebastian for advice and guidance and also see what a friendly place it was, and with excellent security presence within the city.
Sebastian generously followed up after our tour with lots of suggestions for the rest of our trip.
