12 Things To Do In A Weekend in Edinburgh

Welcome to Stirling Castle, one of Scotland's most iconic castles!

Stirling Castle is located in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is one of the most important castles in the country and has been the site of many important events in Scottish history. The castle is situated on a volcanic rock and commands a strategic position overlooking the River Forth. It was the site of the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297, where the Scots defeated the English army. The castle also played a key role in the Scottish Wars of Independence, and was the last stronghold of the Scots before they were defeated by the English at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314. The castle was besieged by the English in 1513, but the Scots held out and the castle was not taken. In more recent times, the castle has been used as a military base and as a prison. It is now a major tourist attraction, with visitors able to explore the castle’s many rooms and towers, and to enjoy the views from its walls.

Like traveling with a friend

My family of three enjoyed our time with David. We booked two tours with him during our time in Scotland. I wish we had known how fabulous his tour was going to be. I would have planned the rest of our time differently. David is extremely kind and went out of his way to provide us with a comfortable, flexible trip. I enjoy learning as much as I can when traveling to another country. David is extremely knowledgeable and eager to share his wisdom. An addition to the trip, he provided us with opportunities to try Scottish cuisine and yummy snacks during our drive. An example, we had heard that we needed to try million dollar shortbread. As a kind gesture, while we were on a tour, he went to a cafe and purchased it for us to try. Really a genuine person with a passion to share his knowledge of his homeland.

Flexible

Neil was very informative and a real pleasure to spend the day with. He allowed us to change our itinerary so we could visit Blair Castle as well as the distillery at Blair Athol, which is our family castle and distillery.

Monica is the best tour guide rver!

We had picked Monica specifically because her bio mentioned a bubbly personality, and she was exactly that! Our tour of the highlands was everything we had hoped for and more. From the moment Monica picked us up in old town Edinburgh, she was a fount of knowledge for every building and landmark we passed and every question we asked. The tour was specific to our interests; even as we were driving Monica was tweaking our experience as we talked and she got to know us, so that we would see what we would enjoy most. We were given lunch options so that we could eat when we were hungry rather than at a pre determined spot. We managed to stay clear of tourists for the most part. And our takeaway was that the car ride was as much a treasured part of the experience as was the jaw droppingly beautiful sights we saw. Our tour with Monica was worth every cent! We hope to have the opportunity to tour with her again!!!

Wonderful experience!

My mother and I spent 11 hours (round trip via car from Edinburgh) touring the highlands with Justin and it exceeded our expectations! He was knowledgeable, engaging, and tailored the experience especially according to our interests. He also knew the best spot to stop for delicious scones and tea along the way! I would highly recommend Justin to anyone who wants an extra special private tour.
