Spend a perfect weekend in Madrid like a local! From exploring the magnificent Royal Palace to shopping at the vibrant Gran Via, a weekend holiday in Madrid is definitely perfect! Before you pack your bags and head to Madrid, here are some ideas on what to do in Madrid during the weekend. Saturday: Royal Palace Start your holiday with a visit to the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family. Get inside to admire the amazing displays of artworks, porcelain, silverware, and tapestries. Don’t forget to drop by at the nearby Almudena Cathedral. Saturday: Museums and Art Galleries Exploring the museums and galleries is among the best things to do in Spain this weekend. So head to the Prado Museum for some of the most impressive art collections! The Reina Sofia museum is a great place to admire Picasso’s works of art. If you want to get a peek of Spain’s rich history, the National Archaeological Museum is the best place to be! Saturday: Plaza Mayor and Mercado San Miguel Madrid looks even lovelier at night. So when evening comes, walk towards Plaza Mayor to admire the historic buildings by the square. Make your way towards Mercado San Miguel, a historic market that dates back to 1916. Grab a chair at one of the tapas bars in the market and order a serving of tapas and beer! Sunday: Shopping at Gran Via For some retail therapy, head to Gran Vía, a 100-year old street that’s lined with some of the most sought-after retail shops. Even if you don’t intend to shop, strolling along Gran Via is a great experience that you should not miss in Madrid at the weekend. This vibrant place is lined with beautiful and elegant buildings, which is definitely perfect for sightseeing! Sunday: Retiro Park Join the locals for a relaxing afternoon at the Retiro Park. Very knowledgeable about the great works history. Would do this again with Maria for sure! Friendly and easy to chat with. 10/10.
We had an amazing tour of Madrid with María, she was knowledgeable, friendly, and the perfect tour guide for the city. She communicated well beforehand and sent a follow up message with more information which was so helpful! Thank you María for a great tour!
we had a truly great day with Drica doing the cooltural tour of street art and some tapas. It was 100% what we could hope for. Lavapies is an interesting lively neighborhood, lots of streetart and cool places and Drica really knows everything, from artists and back stories to hidden gems like the community garden with street art and some tapas in the charming neighborhood market. A truly wow day for us.
