  • Step back in time in the Old City

    Once you know exactly what you’re looking for, the Old City is easy enough to spot, because it was once surrounded by a wall.  While the typical Old City of Istanbul tours include famous sites such as the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and Gulhane Park, you can expand your tour of ancient Istanbul by simply following the old city walls.  

    With your local friend, you can trace the outline of the Old City outside of the normal tourist hubs.  The most well preserved example of the ancient walls can be found at Vezneciler, where you’ll also find a lovely park and square with a statue that remembers the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople.  Just follow the old wall to get out of the tour center and go on a unique tour of Istanbul in ages past!

  • Eat your way through Istanbul

    One great way to experience the different parts of Istanbul is by tasting the unique food of each neighborhood.  You can start your Istanbul food tour in the morning in Besiktas’s “breakfast street” with a proper Turkish breakfast, enjoyed with countless cups of tea over the course of a few hours.  Then, you can try waffles in Kadikoy, fresh grilled fish sandwiches in Eminonu, famous meatballs in Sultanahmet, Uyghur food in Capa or Yusufpasa, or “kumpir” (loaded baked potatoes) in Ortakoy.  Throughout the city, you’ll find the staples of Turkish street food: “simit” (a round bread with sesame seeds), grilled corn on the cob, roasted chestnuts, and of course, “doner” (beef or chicken roasted on a spit).  

    Food is pretty easy to find at all hours, as most places stay open late into the night, so your food tour in Istanbul won’t get cut short!  If you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, just tell your local friend and they’ll advise you on what to eat.

  • Street art in the backstreets

    Another great way to really get to know a place is by the art you can find in the everyday spaces.  Neighborhoods like Karakoy on the European side and Moda on the Asian side are full of street art and galleries that are open to the public. Just by wandering around the streets, you can get a whole artistic tour of Istanbul.  You’ll see pictures, slogans, political messages, and jokes painted all over the walls of the neighborhoods you wander. All in all, we had an amazing tour in Turkey with Emre! We’ve been telling everyone it was the highlight of our trip, an unforgettable mix of history and incredible food. You will not regret booking with Emre!

Our tour of Topkapi Palace was the highlight of our four day stay in Istanbul in April, 2025. Emre's passion, knowledge and experience of the palace was immediately evident from the moment we met him. He was friendly, funny and so patient with all of our questions. He helped us to skip in front of large groups while in the palace, found spots to keep us mostly out of the rain and wind (it was raining all day) and constantly checked in with us to see if we wanted to visit certain aspect of the palace or skip them. This was an outstanding experience and we learned so much. He even gave us restaurant and book recommendations to supplement our Turkish experience. We absolutely adore him and you should not hesitate to book any tour with Emre.

Walking and talking with a local

Deniz is a great human being who knows so much about Istanbul. We went through all sorts of areas ending up in the Asian side enjoying a very different part of this vibrant and friendly city. We had a great tea/coffee break. Deniz answered all sorts of questions and as others said made lots of great suggestions.

Great tour

We had a great afternoon with Ayfer. She was very knowledgeable and introduced us to some lovely places we would have never found on our own. She gave us some great tips for places to eat and see. She was very patient with our younger children. We would highly recommend this tour with Ayfer. It was a great way to see the main attractions of Istanbul.
