Best Markets in Dubai

  • Find beautiful textiles at the Bur Dubai textile market

Looking for beautiful cashmere, silks, and pashminas? The textile souk (market) is filled with incredible textile fabrics and gems to be bought! But it is crowded and touristy, so go with a local host who will coach you on how to haggle prices with the shop sellers to get the best deals, it’s a must and super fun! You might even chat up some of the local shop owners and hear their stories; Dubai is very eclectic with people from all over the world. Enjoy some local snacks along the way and walk away with unmatched fabrics for amazing prices!

  • Discover Dubai’s hidden flea market

What? Fancy Dubai has a flea market? Yes it does! And it is popular among the locals too! The flea market is held three to four times a month in various locations across the city, has actually inspired a local market trend across the city. The flea market is a true local favorite and one to be enjoyed with a local host who will know where and when they are happening! With over 300 stalls of various second-hand gems including ceramics, antiques, arts, fabrics, crafts, clothes, furniture, jewelry and instruments, you will lose yourself in the myriad of stalls and stands. Your host will help you find what your looking for great prices! The treasures you will find here are quite unique!

  • Enjoy an upscale market at Souk al-Bahar

For a more upscale market, Souk al-Bahar (the market of the sailor) is a true Dubain experience! The market is a large building designed in ancient Arabesque style with high archways featuring beautiful Islamic art. It is old meets new, a modern shopping experience with an ancient flavor.

The complex boasts over 100 shops and incredible restaurants; it is next to the famous Dubai fountain so you can peak at the fountain show. Your host will show you the best shops for what you are looking for and you can enjoy an incredible Lebanese meal at the famous Abd al-Wahhab restaurant overlooking the fountain. Your host will make the experience authentic and not touristy!

  • Get lost in the incredible smells of the spice market

Ahhh the spice market, mmmmm. One of our favorites. The smells, the sounds, the bustle, there is just not much quite like it! The spice souk (market) in Deira is filled with every spice you could dream of: vanilla pods, cinnamon sticks, stacks upon stacks or cardamom, saffron, and curry spices. Don’t leave this place without a few spices to take home!

The sellers will encourage you to taste and touch; it is a very sensory experience! Like all the souks, bartering is essential and going with a local is the best way to ensure you don’t miss any of the best quality shops, get a great price on your purchases, and have the most wonderful experience!

  • Experience the Farmers’ Market on the terrace

Ask your host to take you to the local farmer’s market on the terrace! It is splendid. Six months a year, a group of organic farmers sell their best locally grown produce, from farm-fresh eggs to greens to tomatoes. The Farmers’ Market, which takes place every Friday morning by the local deli Baker & Spice is stocked with handmade jams and breads, beautiful vegetables and fruits, which are directly sold by the farmers themselves. Your private guide can introduce you to the farmers and expose you to the fresh local produce then perhaps after you shop you can all cook it up together!
Now that’s a real local experience.

A Great Day in Abu Dhabi

We did the Abu Dhabi day trip with Sandy Nat and driver Ranju. We were picked up promptly at the arranged time and set off from Dubai to explore Abu Dhabi. We had requested specific stops for our tour which were accommodated by Sandy. So you can make this tour bespoke. Sandy is extremely knowledgeable and able to answer all our questions. We started off at the Grand Mosque (and so helpful that Sandy had made all the arrangements so we were able to fast track entry) which was stunning and so beautiful. Sandy shared so much information on the building of the mosque and each area’s significance which made this visit truly memorable. Our next stop was the Emirates Hotel (former palace) and along the drives we were also able to see specific sights that Sandy pointed out (which we were not aware of) - such as the seven buildings that are designed to look like the five fingers of a hand. Next stop was Heritage Village for a self guided tour of the humble beginnings of the first ruler of the UAE. Enroute to lunch we passed a few more sights and also saw the new palace from across the ocean (overlooking a bay). We stopped for lunch at Al Mrzab for truly Emirati cuisine (which is also recommended by the Michelin Guide). The afternoon consisted of a stop at the date market and the Louvre museum. We toured the museum which happened to also house several works of art by renowned artists Money, Manet, and Renoir (without the lines like the French Louvre). The final stops included driving through Ferrari World and the parks on Yas Island. We did not wish to stop here but they can be added to one’s itinerary. The day was packed with activities we chose and we continued to learn about the Emirati culture from Sandy during the drive back to Dubai. Sandy - Thank you for a most wonderful experience and for sharing some of the sights your home has to offer.

Absolutely excellent day in Abu Dhabi

We had an absolute wonder of a day in Abu Dhabi! We throughly enjoyed it and were very happy with the itinerary. We saw the mosque, which was magnificent. Our son took a small tour on a camel, which was a lovely treat. We saw lots of other things as well and had a wonderful lunch at the fish market. We were very happy with our guides as we really enjoyed Sandy’s storytelling and an overall happy approach to life. Highly recommend the tour!

2 days in Dubai

Dubai is an amazing city with a lot to see and do. It’s worth taking the effort to see it but how to see it in a short period of time? Suqlain did a great job taking us around. He knows the city well and if one place had long lines, we easily moved on. I appreciated his flexibility
