Hi there, my name is Akarin or Andy to my friends. I am a half Bangkokian - Chiang Mai citizen and passionate about history and culture.

A cool thing to know? I teach cultural heritage management in universities and if you are interested in performing arts, I’m also a traditional Thai classical dancer and teacher specialised in Thai mask play.

Born in Bangkok of Chiang Mai mother, I love both of my parents' hometowns for their distinctive cultures, heritages and lively atmosphere, they are different, yet, as equally homes to me!

On my tour, you’ll experience the old parts of either Bangkok or Chiangmai, both famous and hidden places, with authentic bites along the way that you shall never forget.

Akarin is highly knowledgeable (having a PHD in cultural history), fun (for adults and children), makes everything come to life, is extremely honest and helpful, and has impeccable English. We went to the Royal Palace and Wat Pho/the Reclining Buddha and he brought together vast knowledge, storytelling and entertainment - we then did a tour of the khlongs on a private longtail boat and he brought the various neighborhoods to life for us. The next day we went on a tour of trendy Tad Noi and Chinatown, were provided with more delightful history and stories in the Temple of the Golden Buddha and the temple of the princess of Compassion, amongst others, whilst milling through the streets and various markets, and stopping off at interesting and arty coffee shops, taken to high quality eateries and, for something different in the morning, did a tour on the Mon Island (Akarin arranged for the museum to be opened for us during the week, took us to make pottery, toured the island on electric motorbikes and gave us a fascinating insight into the Mon people and the island). Akarin was full of ideas of things to do and see and also very happy to listen to our preferences, was full of information about what to do on our other days and helped make sure we had value for money on purchases. This was not our first time in Bangkok but Akarin's integrity, friendliness, knowledge and sense of humour made it so special and memorable. Andy was an amazing guide on our tour of The Royal Palace and Reclining Budha. He organised a convenient start time with clear instructions on where to meet and how we could travel there on the river. He has such in depth knowledge about palace and the Budha and shared this with us in an engaging way. We have spent the last few days discussing the origins of Buddhism and reading more about our visit. I would highly recommend using withlocals and picking Andy as your guide. Akarin was absolutely wonderful. He’s clearly an expert in Thai history and in three hours I don’t think we even scratched the surface of what he knows.
