We booked a private tour with Gilbert based on previous reviews and we weren’t disappointed. Gilbert personalised the tour based on our requests, but still managed to pack in an enormous amount of history and current affairs as we walked around the city from eatery to eatery. He kept a group of adults, young adults and teenagers enthralled for four hours. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone - make sure you’re hungry before you go as the food is plentiful!Gastronomic History Tour

We were a party of 3, and Gilbert made us feel as though we were a part of his family! He is so very friendly and informative! There is no way we could have experienced and learned so much on our own! He took us to so many behind-the-scenes places that most tourists like us don’t get to experience. He is authentic Cape Town and hope to use him as our guide again one day. Best Cape Town guide!

Gilbert is very knowledgeable and loves to share his wealth of historical information. Spent a lovely yet rainly afternoon with him where he shared stories of his family's experiences and the sad history of District Six. We did the food tour with Gilbert. He is a wonderful host and guide. Knowledgeable, friendly and passionate about Cape Town and its people/ history. He took us to interesting eateries, each showcasing a different aspect of Cape Town food and combined each with a discussion of the area, the people and history. We had plenty to eat, so much so that we did not have dinner that night. Thank you Gilbert. Great tour great food

This tour ended up going above and beyond all of our expectations. It was our first tour and a great intro to Cape Town/South Africa and was truly one of our most favorite excursions from our trip. Not only was the food absolutely delicious but Gilbert did a fantastic job providing the history of the area and South Africa as well. We really appreciated him sharing his personal experience which brought a lot of additional insight, as well as taking us to truly local spots for food. He was very informative, attentive and overall a friendly, great guy. We had such a great time with Gilbert and can’t recommend him enough!Amazing food and wonderful guide!

I had an amazing experience on the food tour in Cape Town with our guide, Gilbert. From start to finish, everything was perfect. Gilbert is not only knowledgeable and passionate, but also warm, friendly, and genuinely dedicated to creating a memorable experience. He went above and beyond—extending the tour, adding extra stops, and putting in incredible effort to make sure every detail was just right. The food was absolutely delicious, and we got to explore a wonderful variety of local flavors and hidden gems we never would have found on our own. We thoroughly enjoyed our walking food tour with Gilbert. He gave us lots of background information about the city as well as the food. The quantity of food was enough for five full meals. Gilbert gave many containers of leftovers to homeless folks on the streets. The variety of dishes was wonderful. Go with an empty stomach!Great tour, too much food
