Hi there! Nice to meet you

Hugo

I am a French art historian. I was born and raised in the Latin Quarter of Paris. I studied in both New York and Paris, where I got my PhD in the History of Art in 2025 at the Sorbonne University. My Thesis examined french landscape paintings from the 17th century.

Hugo was an amazing guide. He brought the Louvre to life for my family. Our only regret was that we had only 2 hours together. Highly recommend him. He was one of the best guides we had in Europe. Amazing guide

Not only has Hugo been studying at the Louvre’s graduated program for eight years, making this like a tour of his “home”, but he delivers all with with and true emotional intelligence into the interests and pace of his customers whether 8 or 81. A true expert with insight and wit

We had such a great experience with Hugo. We were a group with disabled individuals and little kids and he made the tour fun and accessible for all of us. We learned so much and couldn’t stop talking about everything we learned. Truly a 10/10 experience! The best private tour, even for kids!

I booked this holiday excursion as surprise for my family and a celebration experience. I read up on "With Locals" and found Hugo. He is an art historian specializing on the paintings of Versailles. Although we wished we had time to visit Versailles, we were lucky enough to secure Hugo as a guide for the Louvre. Hugo's thorough knowledge of the Louvre itself brought a unique and unexpected perspective. He took us down to the excavation site underneath the building, which was discovered during the installation of the I.M. Pei Pyramids in the 1980s. He talked about the construction and stonework and how the Seine River still makes its presence known. We were taken through to see the Venus de Milo, where he explained its construction (like Legos?) and her missing limbs. He brought us up close to Winged Victory (aka Nike) and how its wings bring balance to the statue. There were so many interesting and new viewpoints that Hugo introduced us to. My favorite was the Mona Lisa. Honestly, I was not as interested in the painting until I heard about who she was and the truth behind her smile. It was an honest and poignant explanation that touched my heart. If you want to know, hire Hugo! If you want a once-in-a-lifetime visit, spend the money and the time to engage a tour guide for the Louvre, especially Hugo. So many people mill around looking at paintings and statues mindlessly without the possibility of understanding their significance. The Louvre came to life with Hugo. I now understand the depth of the institution and had a more meaningful experience. Discovering the Secrets of the Louvre

An incredible tour! Hugo is so knowledgable and is great at really explaining things in depth, but at a relatable level. He showed us parts of the Louvre we didn’t know existed, was able to explain the meaning behind the paintings and sculptures and show us details we wouldn’t have otherwise noticed. Takes a potentially overwhelming day in to a really enjoyable and manageable tour. Highly highly recommend!! The only way to experience the Louvre!

Spending two hours with Hugo at The Louvre was like taking a high level course in art history. We not only learned so much about the Louvre and its masterpieces, we learned relevant French history to give context to all we saw. Hugo was the perfect guide to take us through the Louvre. Plus, he was lovely!A master class in french art history

We very much enjoyed Hugo's insightful and very knowledgeable tour of the most famous art pieces at Musee d'Orsay. His ability to engage and immerse our 9 and 11 year old was much appreciated. Great Family Tour

My fiancé and I recently had the pleasure of a tour at the Louvre with Hugo, and we can’t recommend it enough! Hugo’s passion for art and history were evident throughout the tour. His storytelling skills brought the museum to life, making each piece we encountered feel like a vital part of a larger narrative. We would highly recommend taking this tour with Hugo!
