Merel

I have studied violin at the Conservatory and Art History and Design at the University of Amsterdam so I would love to take you on a tour and tell you more about this beautiful city and its connection with the arts. There is so much to tell, taste and see.

After my study I started my own design company and musical collective with which we perform on festivals, so if you are interested in contemporay Dutch music or the combination of tulips and 17th century art or if you have a wild specific interest of your own, I will shape the tour around your favourite subjects and show you all the hidden nooks and crannies of the city combined with the best food and art.

A couple of weeks ago we took a combined Rijksmuseum / Van Gogh Museums private tour with art historian Merel - she was fabulous! She took us on a masterpiece tour of both the museums, which are situated within walking distance to one another, and gave us subtle insights on the artwork as well as the trials and travails of the artist, such that one could only hope glean from a passionate art historian. We found her extremely knowledgeable, good natured and most importantly, she always had a smile on her face. Merel is the sort of guide you can't forget and one that you always compare your other similar experiences with! Art Historian Merel Rocks!

I really enjoyed my time with Merle at the Rijksmuseum. Her knowledge and passion for the works in the museum were apparent. She clearly wove history and context into her tour. Merel was an exceptional tour guide for our experience touring the Van Gogh Museum. She did a fabulous job of weaving the story of Van Gogh's life from start to finish. I felt like I was listening to a book on tape as she described each significant painting and what it meant in terms of his life. It wasn't just art it was a story that came to life through art. I would HIGHLY recommend Merel. She is bright, articulate and passionate about her subject! Book her!!Van Gogh came alive!

My family and I had an amazing and informative experience at the museum with Merel. She is extremely informed and is very friendly and warm, making you feel comfortable as you walk through the massive museum. We all learned so much and saw some of the best art in the world! 10/10!Definitely book with Merel!

We had a two person tour with Merel of both the Van Gogh and Rijks museums. The best part was Merel’s extensive knowledge about art, the artists, and her natural ability to communicate in an engaging and interesting manner. This was no easy feat because it was August and the museums were busy. I highly recommend Merel.Art with Merel

My wife and I visited the Van Gogh museum with Merel and she made the experience so much more enjoyable. She guided us to numerous works throughout the museum with extremely interesting details about Van Gogh and backstories around the paintings. She is also a really engaging storyteller.
