Raffaele

I'm a Neapolitan Archaeologist with 14 years of field experience on my neck and I am an Official Tour Guide of the Campania Region. I have a degree in Archaeology, a master in Classical Archaeology and a Ph.D. in Archeological Heritage -with a project on a Pompeii's roman building.

I did my FIRST archaeological excavation at POMPEII and since 2008 I have been part of an International Team of Archaeologists where we found a Roman bath in an area of the Vesuvius never discovered before (Apolline Project); my love for history brought me to many dig sites around Italy (Rome, Molise, Etruria) and since the 2015 I am Archaeologist Member of the Vatican Team Commission for Archaeology in particular for the excavations of the Catacomb of Naples (St. Gennaro).

- March 2021 I discovered a roman villa built outside the city walls of the ancient Pompeii.

- The municipality of City of Pompeii has awarded me the Prize for 'great and honorable guide' (Oct 2019)

- In December 2021 the Nobel Prize Prof. Mario Capecchi was on a tour of the Archaeological Museum of Naples with me.

- In September 2019 the Nobel Prize for Medicine 2011 Dr. B. Beutler was with me for a tour of Pompeii.

Also, I am working as researcher on an archaeological excavation here in Naples (the underground of Naples is an amazing world!) and you can find my published research papers about Pompeii or Naples on Academia edu under my name. Since I was a child, I have always loved the ancient history of Greece and Rome as well as art from the Middle Ages to the 20th (1900s).

We had a great experience at Herculaneum with Raffaele. He was easy to communicate with and conveyed the appropriate solemnity for the site, but also found ways to lighten the mood where appropriate. Our group was mixed with two of us very enthusiastic and asking lots of questions and the other two less engaged but that was not a problem for Raffaele and he gladly answered all of our questions and let the others follow along in their own way. He is clearly experienced and very knowledgeable on the subject of archaeology and of this site. I definitely got more out of the experience for having gone with Raffaele rather than on our own.Wonderful experience with Raffaele

Raffaele was a wonderful guide. He was flexible and easy to communicate with in the planning stages. He met us promptly at the meeting point. Unfortunately there were 5 cruise ships in Naples port, but he made us feel like we were there with just our group. He navigated the ruins like a pro. He is knowledgeable and friendly and it was also interesting hearing about his experience as an archeologist. I recommend him as a guide and his tours. A Morning in Pompeii

Raffaele was a great find! He was very helpful in getting to Capri with our group of seven and meeting up with him. He organized our transportation on Capri and kept us away from the crowds. He is extremely knowledgeable and answered all of our questions about Capri and Anacapri as well as questions about our tour in Pompeii we had the day before. We went up the chair lift at the top of Anacapri for the spectacular view. I had a vertigo episode due to my Ménière’s disease and he entertained everyone with stories and information while I recovered. He stayed with us until after our tour should have ended and got us set up on a boat to the Blue Grotto which was so fun also. We had a blast and would tour with Raffaele anywhere! Great guide for Pompeii or Capri!

What a wonderful tour of this great sight. Raffaele was an excellent guide who made sense of what we were seeing. He imparted his knowledge in an interesting way and bought Pompeii to life for us. We felt overwhelmed by the site at first but soon began to understand the layout of the buildings. By the time we visited Herculaneum the next day with Raffaele, we were becoming experts in architectural features! He has a lovely way and was very caring with my husband who has sight issues. It has been on our bucket list, and Raffaele made this visit into a great experience. Great communication before our visit and listened to our desires. Book him now - you will be in for a treat. Raffaele is a phenomenal guide, who's deep understanding and appreciation of the place you are visiting makes for an incredible experience. He helps you understand the emotional magnitude of the place, and even takes personal pride as one of his mentor/professors was the archeologist who discovered the skeletons at the marina. I would not have any other guide to see the precious site of Herculaneum. One of the best

We truly loved our time with Raffaele. I doubt we would have even made it into the site without him as the entrance was total chaos on the day we went and his advance purchase of the tickets and navigation of the entry point made it so much easier. Having a private tour guide really made the experience most enriching and much better than being in a large impersonal tour group. His archeological background and intimate knowledge of the site from having worked at the digs provided invaluable depth and insight into the history of Pompeii and the lives of its unfortunate inhabitants. We were able to experience the most important areas of this immense site in the short two hours we spent with him. His tour was the highlight of visit to Sorrento and the Amalfi coast. It was well worth the cost. If you plan on visiting Pompeii, do yourself a favor and try to book Raffaele! The absolute best way to see Pompeii

Friendly, informative and enlightening. Raffaele’s private tour was exactly what we were looking for! The tour had a pleasant tempo and he exactly focused on the points that we were interested in.
