Hi there! Nice to meet you

I was born and raised in the wonderful city of Porto and even though I love travelling I never lived anywhere else in my life. I am 35 years old and I also love translating, which I do professionally since 2006, the year I graduated. I also love a good movie and different types of music, particularly from the 1960s and 70s. There is nothing better than a glass of good Portuguese wine with some jazz or Brazilian bossa nova (or even fado, depending on the mood).

As I said before, one of my biggest passions is football and the main city club, FC Porto. The first time I went to the stadium was with 10 years old and since then my interest kept growing.

As a translator, of course I read a lot, being my favoritte book The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde.

Look forward to meeting you and show you the wonders of Porto.

Rui was friendly and easygoing. Gave us lots of insight into the beautiful city of Porto and answered our myriad questions. Walking was easy despite Porto’s many hills as we started at the highest point and wandered downhill. Provided great suggestions for my gluten intolerant diet. We had a great tour and feel we made a friend A friendly and informative morning

Rui was a fantastic tour guide. It was our first full day in Porto and the tour helped us get our bearings and understand some of the history and main highlights of the city. He was kind, interesting, and friendly, and guided us at a pace that worked for all three generations (14-76 years old). As a lifelong resident of Porto, he had excellent knowledge of the city. We’d highly recommend a walking tour with Rui!Wonderful time with Rui

Our tour with Rui was everything we hoped it to be. We appreciated how personable and knowledgeable he is about the city. We took this tour during the last couple days of our stop in Porto, and we learned even more about the city than we could find on our own. He was also very flexible given the sites we had already seen. Rui felt less like a tour guide and more like a friend giving us a tour of the city he so obviously loves!

We had a wonderful five-hour tour with Rui in Porto in mid-September. Coming from a family that has lived in Porto for generations, he was very knowledgeable and anxious to share his love for the city, which he did in perfect English. Porto is a very old city that has become quite trendy, with many visitors and young people, and Rui gave us a good sense of how that happened and its impact on the people who live there. We learned a great deal about Porto’s history, economy, and culture, both through Rui’s “standard” tour and in his responses to our many questions on a wide variety of topics. He paced the tour well, asking us if we were tired or hungry, and stopping to accommodate photos, etc. We had an interesting conversation over lunch about his family and life in general for people his age in this suddenly super popular city (although the food at the restaurant he chose was not very good). A small side note: If you want to see Livraria Lello, the beautiful bookstore that has become Porto’s number one tourist attraction thanks in part to its purported connection to JK Rowling and Harry Potter, be prepared to wait in a long line (€8) or get priority entry (€50). We decided to skip it. We recommend Rui without hesitation.Rui - a knowledgeable & thoughtful expert

Rui was an excellent guide. He took me to the most interesting stores that were filled with so much history. He arrived early to meeting spot and let me know once he was there. Rui was knowledgeable, kind and was good to send a list of the places we visited and a list of restaurants. I will definitely refer him to friends that come to Porto. The tour with Rui made my first trip to Porto very memorable. Porto walking tour in July 2024
