Welcome to York, in the North of England and the county of Yorkshire, which is referred to as "God's Own Country".

I love the city I live in and can't wait to show you around! I have been working in travel for over 20 years and am very well-travelled myself - but there is something really special about York that made me want to live here.

I will tell you about the some of the history of our city, and show you some interesting things - big and small - that you may not find looking by yourselves along the way. I can tell you the best-value places to eat, where to find the best beers in town and some quirky places where the locals hang out.

My particular expertise is the walls - if you would like a full circumnavigation of the walls you will need to pick the 3-hour tour, it's not possible in the short one.

We did a full 3 hours walk in York with Sally and had a wonderful time. First we did the walls of York, which are beautiful and loaded with history; then Sally took us through the narrow alleys of York and told us of the stories behind it. She also gave us tips on which bars and restaurant you best could visit and most important: which to avoid. Sally knows a lot about York, things you won't find in any tourist books. We usually book Withlocals whenever we travel abroad. Due to travel restrictions we thought we would try the experience at home and it did not disappoint. We live near to York and visit many times over the year. We thought we knew most things about York - we didn't. We learnt so much from Sally. Her passion and enthusiasm for York is evident and her knowledge is incredible. All the interesting things we never noticed before and became fascinated by. We have never walked the walls and it was a beautiful way to see York from a different angle. You will learn a lot, be fascinated by York's history and be given great recommendations for shopping and restaurants/bars.
