I’m a scenic artist and a writer based in Madeira island and Lisbon. I was born and raised in Funchal and I keep a strong connection with it’s history and traditions. I find the food here the best in the country (maybe the world) and I’d love to show it to you. I’ll take you to my favorite spots and tell you about historical facts, political issues, curiosities about specific events connected to the geography, but most of all about local traditions and habits that are unique to this island. Madeira has influences from many other cultures, but in a very different way from the rest of the country and i’m very happy to talk about it together with you. I’d also love to share my best tips on restaurants, nature walks, hidden gems and cultural activities. In the end you might end up seeing me at the stage of the local theatre. Who knows…

We had an amazing walk with Sofia. First, she is charming and speaks English superbly! She is friendly and has a great personality! She was raised Funchal, Madeira and has also lived in several other places, so she has a very good grasp on both the local perspective as well as a broader perspective of what’s going on in the world. She was attentive to what interested us. She gave us a very detailed background of the history and politics of Madeira, which we really appreciated. We learned things that we otherwise wouldn’t have known. She taught us about Madeira’s place in history, the architecture of Funchal and gave us ideas about what to do and see during our visit. We had a great time! We were really glad that we booked a tour with her. Sofia is fabulous!

This was Sophia’s first tour with us (a group of 6 women) and she was able to provide and facilitate an interesting tour for us. We were able to in 3 hours get a lovely flavour of the history and evolution of Madeira. We had a great stop for Madeira honey cake and wine as well as a great biscuit shop. We were very tired having had a very early flight out that morning, so we were flagging at the end a little bit but loved that someone else was able to take us round.
