Hi there! Nice to meet you

Thomas

As your Withlocals guide, my goal is to make your experience in Athens, the historic capital of Greece, as authentic and memorable as possible and ensure that you will get the best of what it has to offer.

Through me, my extensive knowledge and love for this majestic and ancient city, you will experience Athens like a true Athenian, discovering the city's rich history, vibrant culture, and delicious cuisine.

From the iconic Acropolis, the Temple of the Olympian Zeus and the Ancient Agora to the bustling Monastiraki, the gorgeous maze of alleyways and backstreets of Psirri and the picturesque streets of the Plaka district (Old Town), I will take you on a journey through time and venture off the beaten path to discover hidden gems that only the locals know about.

With over 3,000 years of history, Athens is a city that is steeped in culture, mythology, and ancient ruins. Whether you are a history buff, a foodie, or simply someone who loves to explore new places and soak up the local atmosphere, lifestyle, culture and customs, I can tailor our tour to suit your interests and preferences.

But that's not all! In addition to exploring Athens itself, I offer tours to Delphi, one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece and the site of the famous Oracle of Delphi (Pythia) and also to Cape Sounio and the Poseidon Temple, a magnificent cliff-top sanctuary dedicated to the God of the Sea, where you can witness the breathtaking sunset over the Aegean Sea.

On our journey to Delphi, which, in the ancient world, was also known as the "Navel of the World," we will explore the scenic mountainous region of Central Greece and make a must-do stop at Arachova, the “Winter Mykonos of Greece”.

In Delphi, we will discover the ancient ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo, where the ancient Greeks came to consult the Oracle of Delphi, one of the most famous and powerful oracles in history. We will also explore the Delphi Archaeological Museum, which houses an impressive collection of ancient artifacts from the site.

Meanwhile, our visit to Cape Sounio and the Temple of Poseidon will take us on a coastal adventure through charming seaside towns and stunning views of the Aegean Sea, to one of Greece's most beautiful locations, located at the southernmost point of the Attica peninsula where we can further enjoy dazzling sea views and marvel at the temple's architecture. Along the way, we will be making several captivating stops, primarily in the Southern Suburbs—widely regarded as the most beautiful part of Athens and we will immerse ourselves in their unparalleled beauty and character. This is where I call home, a place I know intimately, down to every nook and cranny, and I’m thrilled to share its hidden gems and local secrets with you.

Completing our trilogy of captivating day trips, I invite you to join me on an extraordinary adventure to the breathtaking Peloponnese region, a true gem of Greece. On this excursion, we will delve into three extraordinary destinations: the Corinth Canal, Nafplio, and the ancient theater of Epidaurus. Prepare to be enthralled by the beauty and history that unfold before us on this remarkable journey.

Our first stop will be the Corinth Canal, a marvel of engineering that connects the Aegean Sea to the Ionian Sea. As we stand on the bridge overlooking the canal, you'll be awestruck by the sheer magnitude of this man-made waterway and the breathtaking views it offers. We'll learn about the canal's fascinating history and the impact it had on trade and transportation in ancient and modern times.

Next, we'll make our way to Nafplio, a charming coastal town that was once the capital of Greece. With its Venetian architecture, narrow streets, and scenic harbor, Nafplio exudes a romantic and nostalgic ambiance. We'll explore the historic Old Town, visit the imposing Palamidi Fortress perched on a hilltop, and perhaps indulge in some local delicacies at one of the charming seaside tavernas.

Our final destination for the day will be the awe-inspiring ancient theatre of Epidaurus, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its remarkable acoustics and well-preserved architecture. As we step into this ancient amphitheater, you'll feel the echoes of thousands of years of history. I'll share captivating stories and legends associated with the theater, transporting you back to the time when it hosted magnificent performances and dramatic competitions.

These tours are a perfect complement to our exploration of Athens and provide a unique and immersive experience that offers an opportunity to experience the stunning natural beauty that surrounds the city, as well as a deeper insight into the history and mythology of Greece. Throughout the day, I'll provide insightful commentary, enriching your experience with historical and cultural anecdotes.

I am a well-read and a well-travelled people person and my level of English is native-like as I have previously lived, studied (BSc Economics & Accountancy – City, University of London) and worked in London for over a decade, bringing a unique perspective to your tour that blends local knowledge with a global perspective and adding an extra layer of richness to your experience.

With your comfort and convenience as my top priority, I am pleased to offer transportation in my spacious and opulent SUV. Our travel between destinations will be smooth and enjoyable, offering you a convenient and delightful mode of transportation throughout our tours.

If you have a special request for a tour, I am happy to customize the experience to meet your needs and preferences, ensuring that it is tailored to your interests and passions.

So come join me for a memorable adventure through the heart of Athens and beyond, and let's discover the beauty and magic of Greece together, creating memories that will last a lifetime!

We had a fantastic experience with Thomas. He led us on a guided walking tour of the city which took us through all the major sites. Thomas has an encyclopedic knowledge of Greek culture, language and history and was able to contextualize everything we saw. He tailored the pace and itinerary to our interests and engaged with each of our family group in a way that ensured that we all thoroughly enjoyed the day. For us it was a perfect introduction to Athens and set us up for some more self exploration. If we had more time we would have taken another day or two to visit the areas around Athens with Thomas as we enjoyed his company and dedication as a guide. Excellent day. Excellent guided walking tour of Athens

The tour with Thomas was amazing. The visit to Corinth to see the canal, old town Nafpilo and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus were great. Lunch by the sea in Nafpilo will long be remembered. The best part was our friendly and knowledgeable guide, Thomas. He knows it all. I will book again with Thomas on my next trip to Greece.Amazing day in the Peloponnese with Thomas

Thomas was an absolutely amazing tour guide. He was kind, funny, very knowledgeable, and the perfect person to guide a tour! You can just tell by the way he speaks of both ancient and modern history that it is a passion for him, so if you enjoy history he is the best guide for you. It was truly like having your friend show you around. He provided drinks and snacks for the drive and made great conversation. He told us about the history and mythology of the places we were driving by in the way, and he had a PDF ready to go for the site itself since he couldn't enter with us! All of the stops along the way were very cute and had amazing food and drinks. If you're even slightly thinking about booking a tour with him, do it! It will be the best tour you've ever gotten. My husband and I had a private tour to Delphi a few days ago. We had a truly memorable day. It was great to be able to set our own timetable rather than be herded on and off a coach and to be with an Athenian who can give you knowledge and insights that you probably won’t get elsewhere. Thomas is a charming, knowledgable, enthusiastic and friendly person who speaks excellent English. He was very organised, communicated well beforehand and made us feel very relaxed - this was important as its a long day. We felt that Thomas went above and beyond and would definitely recommend him for any of the tours on offer. Memorable trip to Delphi.

Imagine walking through a foreign city with a good old friend who has lived there for a long time: in addition to some of the “typical” attractions, you will hear stories and gain insights that only a real “local” can present to you, especially if he loves his city with all his heart. That actually describes our tour “off the beaten track” with Thomas perfectly. I generally feel well informed about my vacation destinations thanks to extensive reading - and we've already been to Athens several times. But Thomas always had that one extra story to share that you wouldn't find in a travel guide. We touched on topics such as mythology, history, architecture, trendy districts and the Tembi railroad accident (currently there is a temporary memorial in front of the parliament building) as well as people such as Kekrops, Zorbas, Kazantzakis, Babis Stokas, Callas, Onassis and Melina Merkouri, and Thomas never failed to provide answers. When he left us after around four and a half (!) hours with an insider tip for a type of greek beer that is rarely available on draught, the time had just flown by. My conclusion: definitely recommended!Περί ανέμων και υδάτων στην Αθήνα

Our trip to Greece was truly unforgettable, thanks in large part to our incredible guide, Thomas. From the moment the tour began, Thomas impressed us with his deep knowledge of Greek history, culture, and mythology. We enjoyed talking with him and learning about everything Greek. We used Thomas for two trips, and both were above and beyond what we could have asked for. Thomas was not only informative but also warm, professional, and incredibly organized. He managed every detail with ease, making sure we were comfortable, safe, and never rushed. He also had a great sense of humor and a genuine passion for sharing his country’s heritage, which made the experience even more engaging. Thomas made sure that my son who was nervous about touring Greece felt very safe and had fun. In the end my son said, “he wouldn’t have had so much fun if it weren’t for Thomas”. Thomas recommended the best local food, helping us learn a few Greek phrases, and guided to hidden gems, Thomas went above and beyond. It truly felt like we were exploring Greece with a knowledgeable friend. My son came home loving Orange Pie. If you're planning a trip to Greece and want a guide who is insightful, reliable, and a joy to travel with, I can't recommend Thomas enough. Outstanding Guide and Orange Pie

We had a great two days with Thomas, and I highly recommend him to anyone visiting Athens. Our first day was a five hour walking tour of the city, and we had such a great time that a few days later we booked and went on a driving tour exploring the Athens Riviera and the Temple of Poseidon. Both days felt like spending time with a good friend. Thomas is extremely knowledgable about the city and its history, sharing stories and answering questions. He clearly loves what he does, and wants to ensure anyone booking an experience with him has a great time. On both days, he definitely showed us 'hidden gems' that we wouldn't have found by ourselves, which definitely added to the experience. We'd consider a trip back to Athens just to do more of Thomas' experiences! Excellent experience - highly recommend!

We made a booking with somebody else to bring us to the Oracle of Delphi. But last minute we got a message that our selected guide was not available and that Thomas would fill in. And this turned out to be a good thing! Thomas is a great guide and a relaxed driver. He speaks excellent English (lived in the UK for 10 years) and is very keen to make your day special! He asked what we wanted to see and when we wanted to see it. He brought us not only to Delphi, but also to lovely small villages with awesome views. He told us about the Greeks, the history and about present life in Greece. He has a very comfortable car, and we were lucky to taste his mothers olive cake! A few tips: Leave early, about 8 or 8.30h, go first to Delphi and than to the rest of the villages, and the last one: let Thomas order your lunch, you will eat like the Greeks do!Hidden gems of Thomas
