We had a great afty with Tony trying some local foods and then shopping with his mum for food to cook that night. Going back to their house for food prep, cooking and general life discussions was great. We had a really good afternoon with them and really enjoyed eating what we cooked. Excellent experience with Tony and his mum
I absolutely loved my afternoon and evening with Tony and his mom. They tailored the dishes to my interests, took me to see what the locals do, and had e gaging conversations about life and food in HK. I recommend this for anyone interested in food and learning from a local expert.Best Way to Experience Hong Kong
I can not recommend this experience enough!
It started with afternoon tea and a traditional café and then we met up with Tony's Mother to go to the wet market to buy the fresh ingredients for the dishes that were going to be cooked at their home.
The method and techniques used to produce each dish was carefully explained. There was a great variety of dishes, all were absolutely delicious.
I would most certainly book this experience again on my next visit to Hong Hong!Unforgettable and unique experience

We could not agree more with all the reviews below :) we had an amazing day all together with Tony and his mom. They have shared so much from their culture, let us into their home and shared stories, point of views and of course delicious recipes and techniques! The all experience has been beyond our expectations and we feel we have a new friend in Hong Kong! :) Thank you!Authentic experience : Just wow!
This was an amazing experience and Tony was a superb guide. My wife and I recently moved to Hong Kong and we wanted to learn more about local cooking techniques, flavors, and ingredients and the day spent with Tony and his mum was all of that and more!
The day started off at a local cafe/diner where Tony ordered excellent pineapple buns and traditional milk tea for the table. We then met up with his mum and she took us through the market where we learned about the different vendors and fresh ingredients on offer as well as picked up some items to use in cooking our lunch. We learned so much about the different types of fresh produce, meat and seafood. On the way back to the apartment, we hit a traditional bun stall for a delicious pork bun and also a famous sauce stall where we picked up XO and sesame sauces for home!
When we got back to Tony's apartment, his mum immediately brought us into the kitchen and we started cooking our lunch with her. She would show us techniques while Tony explained what was happening and offered tips on the different methods used in each dish. We made so many delicious dishes including wok fried pork patties with lotus root, steamed vegetables with chicken, fresh steamed fish with ginger, some of the best barbecue pork fried rice I have EVER had (it was made entirely without oil and so was light and fresh - so delicious!), and a steamed egg omelet dish which was fantastic. For dessert, Tony showed us how to make sticky rice flour balls which we then boiled in a delicious ginger soup. Tony's mum also showed us how to make black bean and garlic sauce and gave us a jar of it to take home!
Throughout the experience, Tony would explain the different traditions and history behind the dishes, techniques and various aspect of life in Hong Kong. Tony was extremely helpful and responsive both before, during, and after the day! He event sent along all of the recipes as well as Hong Kong restaurant recommendations. His mum was extremely sweet and very knowledgable and experienced in cooking the traditional dishes and was eager to share her experience with us.
For anyone that wants to learn how to cook traditional dishes in Hong Kong and get a flavor for life as a local I would highly recommend this experience!Fantastic day of exploring local market and cooking with Tony's mum!
We had a wonderful afternoon together with Tony and his mum. Throughout the tour we were able to experience grocery shopping, preparing as well as cooking food and finally dining together from the perspective of a true Hong Konger. Tony took note of our personal preferences and integrated them perfectly into every aspect of the tour. We highly recommend this fully personalized tour. From our pov there’s no better way to experience the local life and to get to know the true culture of Hong Kong.
Me and my wife made the tour with Tony. We met at the Station and had some really traditional stuff in a teahouse which we had not even found. After that we met his mum and bought everything for our dinner on the market. This was specteciualar! Tony and his mum know a lot of sellers at the market and so we could make a lot of very cool Pictures and bought everything very, very fresh! After that great Event on the market, there comes the best. You will be invited to tonys and his moms home to cook with them. Everything is described very well and tonys english is very good. All the meals were very, very delicious and tony and his mom were the best hosts you even can imagine. If you want to have a look on real hongkonger´s life, meals and traditions...you have to book this special tour. Absolutely recommandably!Best local experience ever!
As a British born Cantonese and very familiar with Hong Kong, I purchased this experience for my non-asian boyfriend as I wanted him to see the real Hong Kong; I can honestly confirm our time and experience with Tony really was the real deal! I highly recommend this experience if you want to see non-touristy and real Hong Kong. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our time with Tony and I was extremely pleased as we experienced the real local Hong Kong way of living and all of its delicious food.
Tony was extremely accomodative and helpful from the start, even before I purchased the experience. I told him what I wanted and the best date we could do, and he was quick at replying. Even though Chinese New Year was approaching (meaning that shops and markets would be closed), Tony was very helpful and able to set a date which worked best for us all and when the markets would still be open.
When we met Tony, he was very friendly and helpful from the start. We did not stop learning from him and felt very comfortable asking any questions we wanted about food/markets/ Hong Kong. As soon as we entered Tony's home (c. 10.00) we did not stop eating until the end of the experience (c. 16.30). We had the option to leave earlier but we were enjoying ourselves so much we had to stay. Tony's mum taught us how to cook and choose the ingredients, she was very friendly and informative. Tony's girlfriend was also there and was very friendly and helpful too. We felt very welcomed and comfortable having just met them.
The highlight for me, apart from all of the delicious food, was seeing my boyfriend's reaction to the wet market. He has never seen or experienced anything like that before, Tony and his mum were great in telling us the inside tips and showing us around. I cannot express enough how good this experience was as I am already familiar with wet markets, local snacks and some Chinese cooking, I still learnt so much!
I highly recommend this experience for those familiar and non-familiar with the Hong Kong culture. Be ready to meet very friendly and helpful people and most of all, come with empty stomachs and be prepared to eat!Real Hong Kong culture and food experience
We were a group of three from England, visiting Hong Kong for the first time. We enjoyed meeting Tony who was a very helpful host through the local market and then welcomed us to his family home. Not only did Tony help us through every stage of the cooking, but also we cooked the dish ourselves and tasted various alternative seasoning. All were delicious! An additional benefit of the experience was to have had the opportunity of going into a home in Hong Kong which we felt privileged to do, as otherwise we would have only seen the hotel and the boat trip, without discovering what a home was like. Tony was a very friendly host. We could not have asked for a better experience all round. Thank you, Tony!Tasting Hong Kong: Bites, Market & Cooking Class
