I’m Richard — a licensed private guide and experience designer with over 50 years of local knowledge in Chiang Mai. I hold a Master’s degree in Finance from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, but my true passion lies in travel, history, culture, Buddhism, and food. Over the years, I have extensively researched Thailand’s heritage and traditions, and combined this knowledge with my lifelong love for food, coffee, and bakeries — exploring everything from humble street stalls to Michelin-starred restaurants.

I create fully private, flexible tours that go far beyond the tourist path — no tourist traps, no shopping stops, and no rushed schedules. My itineraries are thoughtfully tailored to each guest’s interests, whether it’s ancient temples, peaceful mountain villages, rescued elephants, lush nature, or Chiang Mai’s vibrant hidden food scene.

I will preface my review by stating that this was the 4th Withlocals tour we had booked in Thailand and the previous 3 tours were all stellar, 10 out of 10 experiences. Because of that, we had extremely high hopes for our final Withlocals tour in Chiang Mai. We met Richard for the Night Markets & Street Food tour on a Sunday evening, which we booked specifically because the Chiang Mai night market is a huge event that night of the week. After meeting our guide Richard, he walked us to the Chang Phuak Market. At that one location we sampled 4 dishes over the span of 40 minutes. Richard then guided us toward the night market which was just a few blocks south and offered us one final dish at a stop along the way. We arrived at the night market 70 minutes after our tour began and Richard then parted ways with us. We had booked him for a 150 minute tour. We had fully expected to see some of the night market with our guide as that was explicitly stated in the name of the tour. That did not happen. The other 3 Withlocals tour guides we booked in Thailand over the previous week guided us for the full length of time stated in the descriptions of their tours. This tour lasted for less than half of the time it was advertised to be. Incredible let down

I did a food tour with Richard and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had some great food and a good chat about living in Chiang Mai. He was very friendly and knowledeable. Recommended Lovely interesting guy
