This tour was well worth the money. It was a full day for sure. Our guide Luis, was very knowledgeable about Tomar, the Knight Templars, the castles, the Convent of Christ, the aqueduct was amazing, and the history that went along with each. He took us to a very unique but awesome medieval restaurant Taverna Antiqua for lunch. The only negatives I have are that the vehicle was too small for 5, sixty something people. Also WithLocals actually switched guides on us. We didn't get the person we originally requested and didn’t find that out until the day of the tour. I hadn’t noticed because they were both name Luis. It turned out well, but I was not happy about that. Other than that is was a good day. Tomar excursion

Luis was a fabulous guide for our trip to Fatima and Tomar. He customized the day and pivoted easily when we wanted to do some souvenir shopping. He took us for a lunch that was one of the best of our holiday. Luis is knowledgeable about the history of Portugal. We left with a sense of the rich culture history and diversity in Portugal. We chose this tour because of our interest in Medieval history and the Crusades. It also was a plus that this amazing historical site is off the beaten tourist path. Joao really brought magic to the day with his thoughtful insights and stories that wove together centuries of Portuguese history, culture and politics all the way up to the present day. He also provided a healthy dose of Dan Brown/DaVinci Code myth-busting to the discussion. To top things off we had a great lunch al fresco at the foot of the Roman bridge crossing a gently flowing river running through the picturesque town of Tomar. It was arguably the best day we spent on our two-week vacation in Portugal. Back to the future

We booked an all day tour to visit some of the Templar Knights historical sites with Our guide Luis. He picked us up at our vacation spot and drove us through the country for our tour to Tomar. Luis is an encyclopedia of knowledge! He was apt at showing us all of the interesting locations and very detailed knowledge of the sites you would not get with the larger tours. Our pace was perfect and comfortable for an all day adventure going as fast or slow as we wanted and we also came home with some fantastic photography. My husband and I love to learn on our travels and have taken some fully-guided trips such as with Road Scholar. This time we decided to tailor our own, staying in Lisbon and hiring local guides, and we were fortunate to find Sylvia, who is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable! We took the Knights Templar tour and felt like we were stepping back into history. From the boat ride to access a medieval fortress in the morning fog, to a delicious lunch in a restored centuries- old tavern, she knew how to get us to important sites. We could easily have gone through the Convent of Christ in Tomar on our own without learning many of the details which brought tears to my eyes. Most importantly, she was flexible in meeting the interests we expressed. My husband mentioned that part of his family is Jewish. She knew about , and took us to, a restored museum and synagogue in Tomar. Not only does she know history, but she answered many of our questions about life in Portugal today. She made our day a delight!History with enthusiasm!

We are a family of four visiting Portugal for the first time. Joao took us to Tomar to visit the beautiful Convent of Christ and the Almourol Castle on our last day in Portugal. The church and castle are so beautiful but I believe Joao made a difference in our experience. He is knowledgeable, kind, patience, and very generous with his time. We feel we have had a brief history lesson of Portugal; a glimpse of how the Knights Templar had affected and shaped the history of Portugal. We also learned the way of life of Portugal through Joao. Joao also took us to the historical town of Tomar and had a unique medieval lunch at a local restaurant. We enjoy our leisure lunch and drinks as Portuguese do and chatted and hanged out like friends. Our young adult children also enjoyed this tour tremendously and commented how much they learned on this tour. Joao has gone above and beyond on this tour-way past the 9 hours of the tour. He took us back to Lisbon at the end of the tour, dropped us off at the Time-out market to make sure we could try the Pasteis de Nata of Manteigaria as we wish and showed us where to buy the wines we want to bring home. Then also suggested where we should have our last seafood dinner in Lisbon. We have had a wonderful day with Joao and will not hesitate to recommend Joao. The best day!!!! Sylvia hosted my family and me for a food tour in Lisbon. The words that we used to describe her at breakfast the next day were delightful, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, captivating, lovely and many more superlative adjectives. Sónia was an amazing tour guide with lots of knowledge and factoids about Lisbon and Portugal. It was wonderful to see Lisbon by foot and experience the food delicacies. We took our two boys (11 yo & 3 yo) on the food tour and although adventures eaters, didn't partake in about half of the foods or in the alcohol tastings. We thoroughly enjoyed Sónia and she was wonderful with the boys, this tour would have been better if their was a discounted rate for kids. I'm glad we did the tour as a family, but the price-value rating is low for having to pay full price for kids.Wonderful Family Portugal Food Experience!

My wife and I spent a full day with Luis visiting Fatima, Nazare, and Obidos. Luis has a warm and engaging personality, and he made us feel welcome from the start. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of Portugal, including its history and culture, and he is articulate and eloquent in sharing his knowledge. His English is excellent, and he also speaks fluent Portuguese and Spanish. He was sensitive to our needs and he customized the tour to our preferences. He gave us 9 1/2 hours, over and above the promised 8. In addition he gave us valuable advice to help us plan the remainder of or vacation. We took a food tour with Silvia in January 2025. She did a fantastic tour of showing us the highlights of Portuegese and Lisbon food. It also included a tour of some of the key neighborhoods. Lisbon is hilly and Silvia knew all the tricks about getting around by elevators throughout the city! The food tastings were spot on and delicious. Our guide Lucia was absolutely lovely and gave us a lot of useful information about Lisbon/history etc. We paid €250 and thought that this was too much for what we had. Our walking tour with David was great! David’s knowledge of Lisbon, Portugal, and frankly world history as it relates to Portugal, was off the charts. He provided us with some great tips relative to navigating the steep hills connecting the neighborhoods (wished we’d known that BEFORE we trudged one of the hills!) and some great tips overall. David was very accommodating starting off the tour by giving us options to ensure we got what we wanted out of our experience. We then began at a relaxed pace walking through neighbourhoods and areas we would’ve never found by ourselves with the added historical information from David’s extensive knowledge.
